I would jump on that in a heartbeat.....money up front...and give them a sign thats worth just what they want to spend..I bet I could knock it out in 15 minutes...and oh boy....I can add my name to it?
what a deal...just like racers...put yer name on my car...letter it for free...you get lots more jobs....right..you not only want me to work for nothing..you want me to advertise the fact that I do????????

Sadly, this is where we, sign painters, are right now. At the very bottom of the fricking totem pole.

No more WOWs or applause for us...... or listening to such things as: "Are sure you painted that? (question, usually asked by a sign shop owner, when you showed them your portfolio )....or observers around you, saying: "That is just amazing !!....Beautiful work !!.....Do you have a business card ?

This A-HOLE will, probably, pay more money to the person who mows the lawn of that lot, where he is going to place his sign than what he wants to pay the sign painter.

This dentist is a fricking moron !!......The good thing is that he will, always, be a moron for the rest of his life and the only memories he will have, when he reaches our age, are only those of rotted teeth, in someone else's dirty mouth. We, on the other hand, will have great memories of the beautiful signs we painted.

Not sure why you guys waste so much time on crap like this. The funny thing is, I'm sure someone will step up to the plate and do the guy's work. You should maybe spend your time getting and working on jobs worthy of both your time and skills. Complaining and jabbing about people like this won't make them go away. I'm sure plumbers and electricians see the same things also. Why would a professional sign marker even care, unless of course, you need that type of work. Maybe we need to move on to some positive sign making discussions and such. Just my 2 cents.

Rick, we waste time on this because it is fricking entertaining !!...No other reason......At least, at my age (75 )that is how I see it.....This is what we do when we sit down at the computer, with nothing else to do.

P.S. - Rick I like your work.

Thanks Ricardo. From what I've seen of your body of work, you deserve a little R&R. I'm sure the folks here would enjoy seeing some of it.

You see it under
..Community >>> Artist
...Jobs >>> Art, Media, Design
....Gigs >>> Creative
.....Services >>> Creative
......Jobs >>> Skilled Trade / Craft

Sometimes squeezed into other odd spots
Do others have this most other trades are more regulated by states needing testing & stronger licenses those trades NO.
Trades that do not have strong licensing have this problem, since the internet & desk top & now your phone & ipads, have a idea kapow you can find anything at a better cheaper rate & fool yourself into anything.

when i lived in sarasota, i got a call from a small circus that was based in bradenton. this is bout halfway between sarasota and gibsonton.
i drive up there and this guy has 8-10 35-40 ft tractor trailer enclosed boxes. whats a price on lettering them up. now this was 1987-88, and they had been painted and lettered maybe 6-8 years earlier, so they was faded pretty good. so i tell him after he REPAINTS THE TRAILERS, i would do the lettering/art on them for $800 each. he liked to have hissy fit. tellin me i was outa line and way over priced. so i asked him who did the last lettering on it and how much he paid..........he tells me he had them done in MEXICO for $200 each!!!!!!!!!!!! then he tries to hire me HOURLY)))) i flat out told him he cant afford me))))

adding info at the bottom of the sign, about the designer would be free advertising and a great way to expand your portfolio.
It's astounding to me how common this tactic is. Do they learn this in school? Did they get it off the first page of the self-help book "101 ways to weasel a sign man"? Do they get together and swap info on an internet forum? Or does it just come natural? [Smile]

I'd like to check the zoning in the area - putting info about a second business (other than a tiny bug) could be considered off-site advertising (not allowed on certain types of roads) or make the property used for 2 commercial purposes, when it may only be zoned for 1.

I don't know what you guys are complaining about. If you get to put your name on the sign, you can "get your name out there" and expand your portfolio. What's bad about that? LOL

My mind wanders. And that's not a good thing, 'cause it's too small to be out there alone.
