I have a project to cut out 3 simple letters out of ½" foam board. The letters are about 3' tall and will be used indoors for a wedding reception. It is sort of like a monogram where the biggest letter is in the middle.

They are going to hang these letters on a wall or suspend them behind the cake table. I have had to cut things out of foam board before with an x-acto knife but it is quite tedious and time consuming.

Is their an electric knife or hand tool that can cut thru this half inch thick foam board smoothly? I considered maybe an electric carving knife but the blade is too thick and not short enough. Just wondering if anyone has a clever tool to cut this material.

Sign-cerely, Steve

Have you tried a "hot wire" ?.....I used to cut cheap and soft foam with one of those, back in the days, and it worked great.

CAUTION! Make sure you are in a well ventilated area when cutting with a hot wire.

Also ... a jig saw will do a nice job on this.
