Today we finished the sculpting on the fox head on the large sign for the Fox and Hounds Pub. He's a big critter measuring just over five feet tall. We used almost a hundred pounds of Abracadabra Sculpt to form the details and fur on his head and neck..
Now we are on to paint at last!

Dan, what do you think the total weight of the sign is going to be and how will it be installed on the front of their building? I am guessing you have some sort of structural steel frame behind it that will bolt to the building. This part of sign making requires engineering which I would have to consult someone with that knowledge. I'm sure you figure that part out at the beginning before you even bid the job. Can't wait to see it painted!
Sign-cerely, Steve

The sign is to be bolted to the gable end of the building. The mounting points on the building are to be engineered. They will be beefing up the wall some inside the attic. Then they will lag bolt the sign to the face of the wall from the backside. We have six inches of 30 lb Precision Board to bolt to so there are no worries about holding power.
I'll be weighing the sign next week, but my guess is 2000 - 2500 lbs. at this point. There is a steel frame inside with an eye bolt fastened to the top but that is for craning it into position.
We applied a thin coat (1/4" - 1/2") of sculpt to the fox and then carved in the fur texture with a sharpened paint stick - while the sculpt was still soft. The fox is about 10" thick at the thickest point.
