Today as I was sculpting concrete on the entrance table for the restaurant a plaster contractor came in from his work outside to see what we were up to. He had obviously troweled a LOT of concrete in his day I'm sure. He was fascinated with our work and watched a long while. He asked a lot of questions and not dumb ones either. He knew his stuff, but wanted to know more about how we did things. I answered his many questions.
Eventually he wandered into the restaurant to look over the fireplace. He looked for a long while with his nose pressed in real close. Becky (our new employee) was carving a last branch in that piece. (and doing a great job too!)
He looked close and knocked his finger against each piece. Then he asked a question that I took as a huge compliment. He asked just how we had managed to carve the lettering into the mantle piece so perfectly. The truth is the mantle piece had been routed from 30 lb Precision Board on our router. Even after I told him we had used a CNC to help us out he found it hard to believe.
My concern from the start of the project has been how we would mange to blend the different materials and methods together seamlessly on this project. The computerized router and HDU is great for some things, but others are best done by hand with sculpted concrete.Other bits will feature Abracadabra Sculpt. The challenge was to blend them together.
The project is far from finished. Most of it is just now getting the base coats of paint. By the time we add the layers of glazes and aging there will obviously be no worries.

I remember when I was a young apprentice, I used to work for an old fella up around the corner on weekends for free. What that old bloke did with a brush, gold leaf and layout fascinted me. Yours does the same Dan. Quality work from a Master Craftsman. Well done!
