Dale Feicke has been in the therapeutic recovery unit in Cincinnati, after suffering a stroke. He lost the use of his right side, to a large extent. But he should be home in a couple of days. Please keep Dale in your thoughts and prayers.

I am so sad to hear this Dale. My goodness, but I am SO glad you are going home. It sure seems the Good Lord is with you through this, because it could have been so much worse.
I'm praying for you too, Dale, hope to hear word on how you are doing.

Thanks for the kind words guys. It's been a life-changing experience, for sure. For any of us who take life for granted,I urge you to stop and consider your next breath, or the next time you sscratch your nose. It can be taken from you, in the blink of an eye.
For any of you, who, like me, stayed clear of a doctor's office unless you were sick,I urge you to get on the phone, and get examined. Your life is too precious to mess with.
Even though I was trying to live a healthy lifestyle (walking, eating healthy, vitamins, etc.) something that was congenital, and I had no control over, came back to bite me.
I'm making good headway toward recovery; but only time will tell if or when I'll ever be able to letter or pinstripe again. It's something I truly love to do, and am not looking for a career change, at this stage of the game. I may have no choice.
It's truly daunting, that in a split second, you can't close your fingers together, or scratch your ear, or hold your arm straight out, and you have a leg that suddenly weighs about 200 pounds.
Over the years, I've watched several others of our number fall out of circulation, due to various cataclysmic events, and have lamented that "another one bites the dust". Now, I may have to join them. Please don't follow in my footsteps.
I truly appreciate the kind words of support, and my prayers will be for us all. With God's help, I'll be back.

Dale, so very sorry to hear of your situation, but so glad to hear of your healthy lifestyle because without it, the stroke could have been much worse on you and your ability to regain use. Also, you have a great attitude, and more than all these things, you've got an amazing Friend who will stick with you thru this, and obviously you know how how to lean on Him.
I always read you on the BB because you are very helpful to people and a great all-around contributer to this board.
May your recovery efforts and works be multiplied as you move forward.

Sorry about your troubles, Dale. Sign painters are creative people, tho, so with time you'll probably work out some different way of doing your thing.

Having gotten back home, I yesterday got set uo with my therapist, or should I say "tortician". Had to go thru my first session in the torture chamber; at least, that's what it feels like today. You know the old saying "no pain, no gain"....well, I must have made some real gains yesterday, cause I'm hurtin'.
It's amazing, that in the span of a few seconds, your muscles and body parts forget what they are supposed to do, or how they are supposed to move. In that minute space of time, everything now has to be retrained to do what it has been doing quite well, for the last forty-some years.
Thanks to all the support and kind words, I'm charging blindly forward, full of anticipation that I'll br able to get myself back in gear, before too long. For now, I've got my son helping me get some of the signmaking stuff out of the way, and getting some exercise equipment in its place. For now, I've got lots of work to do to get myself back in shape; and I guess that too could be a good sign.

A stroke will injure part of your brain, BUT with therapy, you learn to use the other areas to replace the injured parts.
I know of two guys who were in wheel chairs and couldn't talk after a stroke, but with physical and speech therapy.. they were back to being fully functional again.
Lots of determination and hard work will get you whole again.
Best of luck to ya!
