Thought it was a good time to start this thread.
How is everyone doing?
Doing pretty darn good. Eating fresh as usual, and got lots of sun this past weekend, which does this gal a world of good.
My toe is on the mend, so Im raring to get back to the exercise with full force this month. Looking forward to it, as I was having withdrawels. haha
Would love to hear what everyone is up to, and hopefully get more folks involved on this topic.
Our mind and bodies are the vehicles taking us thru life, and so taking the drivers seat on our own health is a really big deal. Okay, that's enough of the preaching.

We both had our first doctor's appointments yesterday with our brand new doctor.(Previous doc retired to Mexico!!)
He was happy with my blood pressure, but not with Shirl's.
My blood sugar is holding steady at or under the levels considered correct by Canadian standards. (Here in Canada it is 6.5 "mmol/L" whatever that means?)
Full blood work-up tomorrow morning so we'll know more in a couple of days.
We feel good, except for the usual minor aches and pains associated with old age.

I started walking when it isn't pouring. Which is rare these days but I'm keeping up that optimism! And carrying an umbrella wherever I go.
On weekends or in the evenings, in order to land my vanilla coffee and Cody's slushie, we have to walk for it so that works out pretty cool. Nothing like motivation!
Ditched the crappy carbs and going for the good stuff. With one week under me, I really do feel GOOD! I cheat when I get hungry, so the trick for me is to just fuel on good stuff probably a little more than any weight loss plan would allow. Guess you can say I'm in training for the real deal. Maybe.

Big changes required in my life. Had a complete physical since I hit 50 this year. Blood pressure is way too high, cholesterol is way too high, blood sugar is way too high.
So were working on eating healthier, quiting smoking and adding exercise.

I'm 78, 5'10", 150 lbs. All my blood levels are normal. I never get colds. I dont exercise, I smoke about 8 big cigars a day (been smoking since I was in the Boy Scouts and discovered that Pall Malls in the tent did a much better job of keeping the mosquitoes away than Citronella did), drink about 3 or 4 glasses of wine a day, drink a lot of coffee, eat a lot of chocolate, and eat what I want except I try to keep it fairly lean and easy on the salt, trimming the pork chops, avoiding the processed foods. etc. I dont like big sugar-loaded desserts anyway. I take a One-a-Day and some fish oil -- on the days I dont eat any fish -- which keeps the triglycerides down. I eat a fair amount of vegetables. I dont know if it is genes or whether it's due to what I think it is -- staying relaxed whatever the problems or job stress, doing what you like, letting your energy go where it wants, and thinking thin. A few years ago, the VA told me my cholesterol had gotten too high and wanted to prescribe a drug for that. I told them no thanks, I cut back pretty seriously on the fat for about three months (being a Southerner I had been raised on pork chops, bacon, sausage, eggs, lots of butter on everything, etc), went back and it was down to normal. Then not long ago, they said my triglycerides were high and wanted to prescribe another drug for that. I told them no thanks and started eating more fish. One thing they cant fix and neither can I -- tinnitis. It sounds like there's a creek nearby with a million crickets having a concert. It gets very boring, tho, so I ignore it.

Dennis I like your style. I also suffer from tinnitis and can totally identify with the constant seranade of crickets!
I am still at 145 but have done nothing but work. No fun stuff, but also still eating pretty good except for that 24 pack of Klondikes from Sam's Club. No I did not eat the whole box but it was tempting! Drinking lots of water.
Poor Rachael is sick as a dog with her pregnancy and has lost 12# in two weeks. We haven't gone walking. I think we'll hear the baby's heartbeat on Tuesday. Love....Jill

So far I have lost 25 pds, doing Weight Watchers & walking 1 hour a day. But...this weekend we went to the bigger mounatins, camped in the woods, & everybody brought goodies! Ugh! I indulged way too much, & my brain is foggy, scattered all over! Gotta clean myself out now!

Still down 50 pounds and eating mostly brown rice, veggies and some cereal in the morning. I eat fish three times a week and rarely some chicken. No beef, no processed foods, no fast food. Cholesterol under 100.
I have had tintinitus since I was 13 (head injury). Can't get rid of that jet engine sound right next to my ear. It is something that death will solve and a reason to welcome it at some point, I guess. I live with it.
Feeling? Hate getting old! Sometimes I am a bit stiff all over and the hips, knees and ankles are a bit sore at times. Exercise helps. Climbing up a step ladder a hundred times a day seems to make it go away, but sometimes it makes it worse. What seems to help is ample amounts of Capsaicin, or the active ingredient in hot sauces, but it is listed as a conflict with Lisinopril, a high blood pressure medicine. I replaced salt with hot sauce and seem to like foods better with it.
I completely stopped all alcohol six months back and see no change, except that morning is easier to take. Memory has improved. Math skills are 100%. Perhaps a bit less creative energy and certainly less emotional reactions, but no big deal, really. It was easy and not at all a problem. Amazing still, how easy it was to give up 100%.
I have the b/p of a young girl. 73/91 this morning. Just had another heart sonogram and my ejection rate is normal. Guess, I will live a while longer. Eat right and keep active both physically and creatively. I guess all that paint has had no effect!
Libido? Still as active as ever! Thank God for pretty women who like men!

Hi Nettie, this is my first time on your health watch. Someone may be interested in the teaspoon of cinnamon and honey in a cup of hot water I take every day. It has halted my arthritis, the joints in my fingers are no longer sore and painful. Bill

Bill thanks for that tip. My 26 yr old son Bill has been diagnosed with an arthritic knee (probably from a car accident years ago) and may have to get a replacement. That idea is worth a try!

I have FINALLY managed to get my weight below 210 lbs. Seemed like a wall I just wasn't going to get over, but a heavy schedule and lots of extra yard work over the Memorial Day weekend melted 5 lbs off in three days...whew.
The best part is that I am now able to control both my heart and diabetes without medications. Stopped two months ago and all my numbers are looking good.
The fun part... I picked up a Wii Fit setup and now Celeste, Sarah and I are getting some regular workouts and having a bit of fun in the process. I'd heard some good things about it and now understand why it works. It's just plain fun to do and that makes getting into a regular routine easier.
It's been almost a year since my ticker gave me a wake up call. I intend to answer that call with an anniversary gift of being under 200 lbs. Gotta have goals... Rapid

Down to 167 lb., somewhere I haven't been for a least a couple decades. Historically high cholesterol, and always out of whack LDL/HDL levels, are "perfect" according to the doctor. I'm going to try to maintain this. It took too long to get here.

Been racing and riding my butt off, getting in about 100-110 miles/wk. Had a really hard race the other day - 27 miles, 1:12 minutes, and average HR of 183 (yikes!) for the duration, and 1620 calories burned. I think avg speed was about 23.3.

The docs say hardly anybody drinks as much water as they shd, and a lot of times when you think you're hungry you're actually just thirsty. And I've found that a lot of times it's so -- I'll have a glass of water instead and voila, I'm not hungry anymore.
Slight headaches are frequently due only to being dehydrated.
And of course the more coffee or alcohol you drink the more water you need.

A month and a half ago, the doctor mandated that I drink 3 liters of water daily. Now, I don't eat nearly as much as I used to. There truly is a connection. I'm also off junk food and I don't miss it. I'm enjoying the weight loss. Down to 166 this morning.

I think I have a magnet to stressfull situations and circumstances. Colitis has been knocking on the door but so far I've managed to evade it. I'm learning to handle stress a lot better and when that "sick" feeling floods over me I can find it in me to let it all go. I think that is key to managing this. The rain has been playing havoc with my long walks as well as our farm. Hopefully this weather trend will break soon, and we'll have a stretch of sunny weather to cheer us all up!
