It seems Barb has been reluctant to send out notices because she is behind in the resident draws.
Well here's my opinion, while the draws are fun, they are just an added perk. My dues are to help in keeping this website running. I imagine it's not all that easy to drum up the prizes for the draws and the merchants on this site are for the most part already generous. I'd have no problem if the draws were cut down in numbers or even eliminated.
I sure hope I'm not opening a can of worms here, but I think for the most part residents on this site are good and understanding people.

I don't care if they eliminate the draws completely. My luck is so bad, in the years I've been a resident, I've won 1 small bag of smalts. I don't think they should even enter into the equation of whether or not we renew.
I'm gonna check back to see when I last paid.
/Send out the renewal notices, Barb!!

Please send me a notice. I'm sure mine are due. Heck don't worry about the draws, I wouldn't mind it a bit if you discontinued that part of it. It's nice, but it's not the reason I'm a resident. Thanks for the heads up Kel.

I must be due so please send out the notices. I enjoy the draws but, like everyone else who posted so far, I think they are a bonus not a necessity.

Mine are probably due as well...I'm really bad at stuff like this...I got stopped yesterday for an expired tag on the jeep...when I gave the patrolman my license...guess what...expired drivers license too...court date in 3 weeks...my ticket says $390 in fines and there will probably be a court cost as well...to get current yesterday with tags and license was only $75...oh well my fault.

Yep, me too. Waaaaaaay overdue. Send out the reminders Barb!
The BB used to have a vote feature. Want a count of who wants the draws and who doesn't? Let us vote. I think the answer is obvious though from the replies above.
Eliminate the draws and eliminate a bunch of unnecessary stress you are putting on yourself!

I'll pay $100, and I'm not even making money this year! This site has also pushed me to places I wouldn't have easily achieved otherwise & the recent shop profile in S.O.T.T. magazine came about as a result of this site, as did the Kodak moments published with that profile!

No drawers for me either. Oops I mean draws. And Barb if you still have my cc info, use it. If not, give me a jingle. Love....Jill

JOn, there are two other sign forums out on the 'net that charge for membership- and they restrict what you get to see if you choose the free option. (Ask Jill or Doug or a few others)
All are good in their own way, but the price precludes my joining (maybe I'm just being scungy!) and anyway, on those forums, I only post answers to queries- i.e. I help others- and have gained precious little feedback in return when I ever did have a question)
I don't know what the ratio of paying to nonpaying members is there, but I feel it's a tricky subject, and while we have many people urging Syteve & Barb to raise the residents' price, you want to watch that you don't turn half the residents away, so that the only income they end up getting is the same as before anyway, half as many paying twice the amount.
I'd be suggesting splitting the difference, and going for perhaps $75 - times are hard for many of us - a feeble excuse for what we gain here, but used by many. I'd hate to see Steve & Barb end up with less overall income by raising the prices and tipping ther scales the other way and losing a few residents.
Thta's why the draws came about, I guess- as incentive to encourage people to become residents. I'm happy to have the draws scrapped- but I wonder if the incentive of having them there is still a useful drawcard for people to initially become residents, before they decide they like it enough to want to just pay up to help a wonderful Canadian couple to maintain a terrific inspirational website.
(On a different matter, I maintain /administer another forum- a free one- and the subject of money crops up at times. It takes me a great heap of time to check things over on that site- mostly it's all fine, but every now & then there's a storm in a teacup that needs careful settling. I 'do' this forum to help others also, and it works well. To get a whisker of income from it would be lovely, but I feel not possible. People need to be encouraged to join first. It has about 260 members, and 15 000 posts and is an interesting little active 'community'.
It's a tough subject to balance, both here & there! Wish I had the answers!

How about keeping the dues at $50.00 but allowing a donation of appreciation (sp), so folks could send another $25.00-$50.00-$100.00? I think a great many here understand how financially UN-rewarding these sites can be.
Steve and Barb have not only "put up with a load of cr#^" over the years, but have also dedicated most of they're lives to operating this site during the last 10+ years.
If anyone deserves a little spike of gratitude, they sure qualify!!
Just a thought Roger
