Just got back last Monday Night from a weeks break, I was playing Golf in Florida with 3 buddies, about an hour out of St. John's on Air Canada I Started getting these god awefull pains in my gut... they increased so much that it spread to my chest and back, it felt like a dump truck was on my chest, the pain was unbearable. I don't know how I managed from freaking out to tell you the truth.. luckily it never happened further out, or in the States. As soon as I got off the plane I phoned my wife who along with my son rushed to the airport to get me, I could'nt drive.. In the meantime I was in the can heaving up everything I ate, to no relief, that's when the Heart came to my mind. they showed up pretty quick and my son took me to the emergency room where they promptly hooked me up to IV's and Cardiograms, and drew several blood tests.. I had to stand for several hours as I could not lie down due to the pain. This was 2 am Tues morning, the first cardiogram showed nothing unusual, the second the same, then they came back and did one for the back of my heart and they left, the doctor finally gave me some demoral after the first drugs gave me no relief, and boy did they make me loopy.. what a trip. lol I finally got a little relief and woke up a couple of hours later when the doctor came in, he had a smile on his face and said that all the tests showed no sign of heart problems, the cardios were fine and the blood tests were perfect.
I must have either picked up a bug or had serious stomach problems such as gas or as he said Rot Gut? I was on vacation and was eating late everynight and up really early everymorning, like 5 am, so that may have had something to do with it, but personally I think it might be gall Bladder problems, I've been checked several times for stones due to some lighter attacks in the past, and with my 5 sisters and my late Brother Art all having their Gall Bladder removed along with mom and some nieces... it makes some kind of sense.
Anyway the doc gave me some drugs for pain and sent me home... after taking the drugs for 2 days my heart starts to go nuts last thursday night, very weird feelings, dizzy, sweaty, weak, so I look up the side effects on the Literature they gave me, sure enough it's there. So I call the Health line, because It's says if you get the irregular heart beats to contact your doctor immediately... after a few minutes they tell me to get to the hospital right away and that if I want they can call the EMT's for me.. I started to get a little worried, but thanked them, and I'll make a decision in a few minutes, I phoned my own Doc who's been taking care of me for almost my entire adult life and explained the same to him and he told me not to worry I'll probably be fine in a day or so, and Friday morning I was back to normal, well as normal as I get anyway.
You know I felt guilty for going to the hospital in the first place and told the Nurses that and the Doctors.. They all told me that I did the right thing and to never wait if you expect something serious, there was a much younger man on a bed next to me and he was after having a real heart attack, even though it was on the mild side, and it was not as nearly as much pain as I experienced, he has a much more serious problem, which I'm sure he'll be ok, because he did'nt take a chance.
This break almost killed me.... 5am wake ups and 2 rounds a day for 8 days, eating past 8 at night, yea some break.
If you ever experience chest pain don't take a chance, even though my experience turned out to be something else, the young fellow in the bed next to me was a heart attack.. I could hear the discussion between him and the doctor, and it can be easy to get heart burn mixed up with the real deal..or visa versa... which can be deadly.

If you think you are having Gall Bladder problems, STAY AWAY FROM FATTY FOODS, PERIOD ! I had several attacks from Gall Stones, not quite the symptoms you describe, but painful. Went on a non-fat diet and was fine. Eventually decided to go to the VA Hospital to have the Gall Bladder removed. Doing fine ever since.

Hi Neil...really glad to hear you are OK. I know you must have been really scared.
Our 24 year old son went through the same thing a few weeks ago. After the test were all done, there were no signs of a heart attack, but it was enough of a scare that he has joined a gym and changed his eating habits.
Your absolutely right if you have any signs of a heart attack get to the hospital right away.

I had a similar scare a couple weeks ago. I had blown and mulched the yard four times to get rid of the leaves and had an excessive amount of nasal drain, naturally. Lots of throat clearing. Then on Sunday, I woke up feeling very weak. I was having trouble catching my breath as felt very run down, even though I had had no alcohol and plenty of rest. Unfortunately, I had six major showroom windows scheduled for the week and had to go hit it, up and down the ladder. I was weak and very winded.
On Monday, I went to my internist who checks me out and said my blood was too thin. He cut back my blood thinner that I take. They said that since I had no fever, no sore throat, no chest pains or irregular heart rate and no painful lymph nodes, I must be having some weird virus...some flu or maybe a reaction to the leaf mold and debris. I limped home and slept. I was weak all week and it took a week to regain at least most of my strength. I have a stethoscope and listened to my own ticker and checked my pulse to no odd surprises.
OK. Got the big windows done and have done some more major work since, but I am still not completely recovered. No libido and still some aches and pains all over. I talked to a buddy who is an RN and a couple of others who are in the know. Three have said I have had a dose of the H1N1 flu as it does not have the same symptoms for everyone and is different. No sore throat, no headaches, no temperature, but some gut discomfort and a winded or out of breath feeling. Tired and weary feeling with still alot of nasal drip. I hate this! I hate being sick! Needless to say, I have been sleeping alot and somehow have managed to get a very large amount of work done, making Novenber a near record month for the year. My advice? Go see the doctor if you feel winded. It is scary stuff.
