I preach incessantly about blazing new trails, staying out of the ruts of our own making and constantly trying new things. I believe it too.
Sometimes however, trying new things and doing things differently isn't my favorite thing to do - especially if I have to do it on my own. It can be very frustrating and takes time I like to think I simply don't have. The temptation is to go back to the old way, and do it as I always have. But while it may be a whole lot easier in the short term doing things in this fashion gets pretty mundane and dull in a hurry.
When I am busy the temptation is ever stronger to simply go down the path I've treaded a hundred times.
Life is best lived on a very different road. Purposely taking time through our days to learn new things is much more exciting and fun than merely repeating past successes. Nine times out of ten our discoveries will result in much better and more creative ways of building our projects. The tries that are less than successful are great ways to learn.
The end result is that we go where no one has travelled before. Our work will look different, we will build a business that has very few if any competitors - a VERY GOOD place to be!
Each time I sit down at my design board I have to purposely decide to do things differently. It does not happen by chance.
It's a day to try new things in Yarrow...

It's good to put ourselves outside our comfort zone, A humbling process that makes us better students and in turn enables us to reach new levels of quality in whatever we do.
