I have a Gerber 4B that I use to make pounce patterns for installing letters on a wall. When I tried to cut a pattern today everything looks normal as it sends the info to the plotter from SignLab to Cadlink fastboard, but then I get a message "Error. Invalid or unsupported id. on line 2526" - what is that? The 4B will work independently when I tested it by cutting from it's own fonts, but there seems to be a communication problem between the 4B and the computer. I got a new modem recently - would that have anything to do with it? I tested cutting a letter on the other Graphtec plotter and it works fine. What does the error mean??

First try removing the fastboard driver an reloading the driver.

And if I am not mistaken you may try loading the generic HPGL driver. I think that runs the Gerber equipment also.

I tried removing the driver & reloading; also tried using Com 1 port(4B was on Com 4 but now Com 4 is missing!), but it would not work on Com 1 probably because the Graphtec is on Com 1?? These problems didn't exist until AT&T upgraded my wireless modem - don't know if that is coincidental. So who should I call - AT&T (makes me nervous to talk to them about computer issues)or should I call Cadlink - will have to pay for info? I don't mind paying as long as I can get the problem fixed.

It could be possibly a resource conflict.. I thought those went away with XP.. Possibly check in your Bios if com ports got turned off.(Integrated peripherals) But I doubt it

You may try a USB to serial converter. What version of signlab you using.. I don't think earlier versions of Signlab recognize USB ports though version 5.. I know it does in version 7.

If you want to give me a call we could try a few things to see if the computer is even seeing it.. No Promises though as I am not the greatest Phone tech person.

Hi
I have XP GS15 and Profilelab 6. On my system I had a com error that I would have to log on as administrator and del com port, click on find new devices. Then I could switch to my normal user account and it would work till next reboot. Probably not same error, you could totally unplug Graphtec and plug Gerber in port and try. Also is there plotter setup for cadlink board where you would tell it what com port it is on. It may think it is still on com 4. Just a thought. Reloaded Windows and have not tried to plot yet to see if my problem went away.
