I would be concerned over paint adhesion to the graphite. It seems to me it would hinder adhesion rather than enhance it,..besides its gonna be very messy and difficult to clean off your substrate,....like that of a heavy pencil,.....

You might want to do a test piece and see. I would be concerned too. That kind of graphite is verging on oil and it might react with the paint to make it fail prematurely. Do a little dusting of the graphite on a panel, try lettering over it, let it sit a few days and see if the paint sticks when you pick at it a bit. Try blasting it with a water hose and see what happens. I think you might see that it doesn't stick very well, but who knows. Let us know what happens.

One thing I can tell you... if you are a young boy in Cub Scouts, with a pinewood derby race car, a little bit of that stuff on the axle can really make the difference. Hmmm.. I wonder where those two 1st place plaques are now?

I think I am NOT going to use it at all. When I read the ingredients, I noticed it saying you can add it to oil & grease. Guess I can set it in the shop for one of my old fashioned containers.
Pine Derby? That is neat, Doug! Does anyone manufacture this stuff anymore?

Doug Allan! I thought that stuff was against the rules. OP, thanks for the tip about tempra powder. Last time I bought charcoal powder, it was from a health food store. Very finely ground, but probably burnt bones or something. So what, works great.

Powdered Graphite is great for lubing car door locks in the winter up north. Blow it in or put it on the key. (Specially good on those damn Chrysler locks).

I would worry about what happened if the tempera powder got wet. Would it bleed a hard-to-remove color? I only have about 1" of the first bag of pounce powder I ever bought in the bottom of my old coffee can. Love....Jill

tempra is a water soluble powder, it gets a little wet it makes paint.....a lot of water, and its just like cleaning latex paint from a brush...after i do a pounce with it and ive painted.....hit with air and the the tempra goes away, when the paint is dry, run water over it, and the tempra is gone.
