I HAVE A JOB CARVING AND GILDING SOME PRISM FACE LETTERS. I HAVE FOUR LETTERS 8" TALL AND FOUR LETTERS 5" TALL, CUT AND CARVED OUT OF 1" HDF. HOW DO I FIGURE OUT HOW MUCH GOLD I NEED TO COVER THESE LETTERS?

Sand smooth, prime, lightly sand, prime, lightly sand, coat with enamel, lightly sand, final coat of enamel. (Any imperfections will be magnified by the gold.)
As far as how much gold? Unless you are John Studden, Doug Bernhardt, Noel Webber, etc......probably 2 books.

You can save a lot of time (and gold) if you gild the top of the prism faces and paint the return edge. If that doesn't make sense, call me and I'll explain or send some pictures.......

And lightly sand (600 grit)the final coat of enamel for good adhesion of the size. About 11 leaves per 8" letter and 8 per 5" letter all depending upon the stroke width. This for pricing more than actual use. I always have enough gold in stock to do most any job because buying in full packs is much more economical overall.
