Let me start out by giving some background on the award...some years back while building on an idea for a Hall of Fame, I realized no one in our industry had an award for "Artist of the Year"...about the same time, the full realization of what I had in the form of a white Scottish Terrier known to me as Scotty, came to bear and I mused over the idea of an award based on the five principles that Scotty seemed to possess, naturally...they are: TRUTH-STRENGTH-CHARACTER-PASSION-DEDICATION...these principles also to seem to hold true in other cultures, so it was a logical step to incorporate them into my thoughts of an award of some type...I also at that time thought the title "The Scotty" would be apporiate as he spawned the idea for me to start with...then it was set aside to deal w/life now...
Fast forward to Feb.7,2009, the worst thing to happen to me in a long time, happened, Scotty died...broke my heart, still does, miss him so...but it was then and there that I determined to enact upon idea of "The Scotty" award and do so I did...this years awardee has been named and will receive the physical award and a check for $500 at the annual RatFink Reunion in Manti, Ut., the first weekend of June...awardee has already been notified and arrangements made to be present for such...
To be elible to compete for this award, first notify the directors at Legends of Pinstriping.com of your intent, and be able to present a piece of artwork, based upon the five principles; also be willing to present directors w/your bio for reveiw of your career, the rest is done by vote and awardee will be notified after selection is made and ready for publication...my dream and prayers are for this to motivate artists of all kinds to strive for better and treasure/preserve/pass on the particular craft they practice, knowing at the end of any year, they could be the one to be chosen as "Artist of the Year",(and receive "The Scotty") a title not to be taken lightly, in fact, a mark of pride to be treasured and passed on, "let the tradition live on"...if in agreement w/this effort, please support it in any way you can, talk about it, pass on it's principles, compete for the award, but don't let it die on the vine...think of the virtues of it's namesake and carry on it's professed meaning for others down the road, give the world a shot at doing something good for others...
The 2009 winner of "The Scotty" is one of our own, Ms. Catherine Kennedy of New York..."Cat" as she is known by many of her close friends, is the eptiome of this award...her persistance and drive and thirst for more have earned her this award...She has excelled in her learning, and has shown such at every juncture...her love doesn't stop at art, it flows throughout her world, anyone that has been touched personally by Cat, knows this to be true, truely a remarkable artist/person...her art alone didn't win this award, it was the cumulativation of herself and her self worth that did it and she stands as the poster child of this award...so it's this directors honor, after going thru a voting process, to declare Ms. Catherine Kennedy, "Artist of the Year" and present her "The Scotty"; which will sit on her mantle for the remainder of the year to let all who inquire, know who she is and what she means to her community....congrats Cat, you've earned it...

That's a great idea Frank. I'd like to participate next year. I feel for ya losing your buddy. My current dogs are getting older and I know I won't have them many more years. Mostly, they are so giving and so present, always a gift and loyal as can be. We have a border collie that trained for 5 years to herd sheep the trainer called her an "honest dog". Remember the best moments and treasure the times it kept you close to your heart. Best to you Frank.

Congratulations, Ms. Cat! I agree that you are worthy of not only this award but of the formulization of the new word that describes the combination of yourself and your self worth...
May the legend of Scotty live on forever through this yearly award...

Cat, Congrats on being chosen for this honour. It couldn't be awarded to a nicer artist/person, Letterhead...keeper, student and teacher of the craft. Nice award Frank.
