Today we finished another sign in the shop. According to Raymond's definition it's not a real sign, for its a sample piece for us... but it looks like a real sign nonetheless. Its already working hard as we attend another trade show this weekend.
It's made entirely from Precision Board on the router... about 34" wide and high - 8" deep. It fits nicely on our display table too!
Rebecca did the bulk of the painting on the piece and did a great job too. I got to paint the mountain and do the gold leaf. I painted the block plane all by myself too.
Still having fun in Yarrow...

it is truly beautiful to look at and great to see its not the retro cookie cutter antique signs so many do these these days, love the tool setup

What's interesting about Dan's "signs" is that they don't look like what we traditionally describe as signs. Just as always, Sowhatshisname thinks out of the box.
When Dan approaches a design he always thinks in 3D, unlike the rest of us that see a sign as a level plane with layers attached to it.
It's amazing to see his transformation from a cartoon type design to a more formal look, but still with the creativity that Dan brings to everything.
Even though I jab at Grandpa some (well...a lot) I am still his biggest fan. I learn something with each of his new adventures.
In tough economic times he is showing us how to adapt to the market but not to compromise on quality and creativity.

That is what I am striving for with my sign shop. Great work Dan. I have said it before, but seeing you work here and on your website has inspired me and I'm sure if we are honest, many of the folks that frequent Letterville! If I have the pleasure of meeting you in Pontiac, I hope I can ask you a few questions regarding 3D signage. And by the way, why didn't you ask me about using my shop's name for your training meets? HaHaHa! Sign Magic is a great name and has worked for me since 1995!
Great work from a true professional and inspiration to many. Keep posting them for us Dan!
