Donna and Dan,

Please update us on the flooding in your area. Tonight's news shows incredible and widespread flooding, declared it a disaster area...and now a boiled water advisory. Roads closed, animals in jeopardy....let us know you and your families (and mini horses) are okay? Washington State folks please check in too....it looks like you are even worse off than Chilliwack area and more rain is forecast.
Wear your golashes....Be safe.....

Hi folks!

My place and my parent's place is dry as can be! The minis are in no danger! Thanks goodness for awesome footing! Dad did an awesome job five years ago with the shaping of the land and laying down the footing for the horses... it shows now with just the regular puddles in the rain that will disappear only hours later.

I think that Donna's place is fine, from what I've heard. Perhaps a couple of drips from the roof that still needs repairing, but no flooding as of yesterday.

Most of the problems are on the other side of the river, some folks in serious situations over there with water flowing freely THROUGH their homes! We can't drive to town our usual way due to mudslides and flooded roads, but that is the least of some people's problems - so we are lucky!

Thanks for thinking of us!

Thanks guys!

Ok here too. During some recent flooding scares over the last couple of years, it's clear now to see that Dan, Bec and I are located in a higher elevation than most of Yarrow and surrounding areas. I now know not to panic too quickly when I see the creek behind me rise to crazy proportions. It'll take alot for that to reach my home I see now.

Nearly all that have crawlspaces or even slightly underground basements are heavy into sump pumps. I'm blessed I know, but I feel so out of style not having one or more of these fad devices these days. [Smile]

I do think of how my travel trailer is doing in it's current vacation spot. It sits along a slough that can rise pretty quickly and apparently the owners of the campsite are in another country right now, so no updates as yet.

More rain is due to fall this weekend so we shall see what transpires I suppose.

Thanks for thinking of us!

Good news to hear thanks my friends.

My best mate Bob Smith who lives up the road from you in Chilliwack fortunately has a second story apartment there. He's working at the moment constructing a copper mine plant in the Congo, Africa. Says the rain there is bad too!

Just wonder what "Hell's Gate" looks like today!!!!

We had three weeks of snow that was equal to double what we normally experience in an entire winter. Then we has two days of warm temps and HEAVY rain that melted it all away so fast you could almost see it. That overwelmed our local drainage systems in many areas.

I was through those same areas that were on the news in the last few days. There was certainly water damage to some folks homes without a doubt. There were at least two homes damaged by mudlsides, and another 25 with water in them... not pretty. There's hundreds of homes that have water in the crawl space or basements but thats pretty normal in flood plains and what sump pumps are for... our house was included in that number.

Lots of barns and shops were flooded as many are built in lower areas not regulated like houses are.

Some roads are flooded and closed, and minor mudslides ans washouts closed others... making it a little harder to get into town for a couple of days.

The rivers behind the dikes aren't the problem... that's where the water from the floodplains is being pumped... the pumps just couldn't keep up for a while and the water pooled in the lowest areas. There's no flooding in Michelle's area that I've heard of.

Chilliwack did declare a disaster zone in a small area of town which triggers help from the provicial authorities as its not possible to get flood insurance in BC. They will now get help for certain things.

The reality however is that the flooding is not nearly widespread or as bad as the media makes it out to be. Careful camera angles and lots of sensational superlatives makes for saleable news that gets people's attention.

The reality was that the flooding locally was NOTHING in comparison to what others have suffered in recent years elsewhere.

Everyone I know while perhaps a little soggy is just fine and none the worse for wear.

No worries in Yarrow...
