well...its not puuuurty...i ate 2 lbs of van otis chocolate in 4 days.(1 lb of swiss fudge and 1 lb of cherry cordials.) in my defense, they had a 2 for 1 sale, so what's normally $22/lb was $11/lb....also in my defense, i had severe pms.(yes that is an excuse btw) but i have been mtn biking and jogging up my mtn. however, i did gain 2 lbs from my low...gee big faaaakin surprise eh? that's okay, i'll be kinda good for the next few weeks and maybe it will melt off....bwahahahaha...no really i'll try. i put the other almost 2 lbs(remember 2 for 1 sale) in the mini frig so its not at my finger tips(ya know right behind my chair in my office). i'd actually have to walk and open a door to get to it. yep it should be real safe in there.
i am looking to get rid of another 10 lbs though. i wanna be thin again(like 10 yrs ago)
well that's my confession...how many hail marys do i need to say?

Waiting to see the surgeon to get the OK to get back on the water(whitewater kayaking). I had re-constructive surgery in January after 8 dislocation while kayaking. Other than that, I'm on the top side of the grass and life is good.

I have been trying a diet that Dewayne Connet told me about. You eat 100 calories ever hour from 8-5 then eat a normal supper, and nothing after that. I have been drinking only water also. I have several times a day that I usually miss my feeding. If I don't eat by :15 of the hour, then I don't eat that hour. I've lost 18 pounds in 2 months. I feel so much better. I just got back from Colorado for 8 days where I just ate normal stuff. When I got home I had gained 3 pounds. I have already gotten it off in two days. I hope to drop another 12 pounds for a total of 30 by the end of the summer. It is so much better to eat 5-7 times a day than the usual 3 big meals.

I started back to the gym for daily workouts. I'm trying to stay in shape so I can hike the Grand Canyon again this fall and hike in Hawaii this summer.
My workout program got clobbered for a while by a hurt back (doctor thought I had broken something in my back but X-rays didn't show anything), then a several week bout with severe bronchitis (doctor thought I might have pneumonia but again X-rays didn't show it). The folks at the X-ray place are doing really well and I glow in the dark.

Any more info on the juices? Sounds good. Any details would be appreciated.
Anyone have info on vitamans they care to share? Natural? Synthetic?
Cranked-out some miles on the bike last night. The sun was setting as I was coming over the last descent looking west into the Adirondacks. Orange, purple and gold sunset.
Ahhhhh....life is good.

Hey Joey, as you well know, it's about feeling GOOD while you are alive.
I need to break out my juicer. I have one called the "juicelady" that just rocks! It'll pulverize anything.
I will make absolutely delicious mixtures with carrots, a bit of apple, ginger, garlic, beets, parsley and lemon. Among other things. It really does taste good, and you can almost feel it fueling you up. Kinda like watering a wilted plant. Your body just revives! It's great.
I'm at 128 this morning. The "hover range" on my weight these days is between 126 and 128. I"m wanting to get it to between 122 and 125, and then I'll get myself off "weight loss mode". Which just means I'll let off abit on the cardio, and be less strict on my caloric intake. We'll see how that works out for me. I'm actually quite happy where I'm at at this point.
Hey Mike, good for you on your progress!
I really enjoy seeing what all of you are up to with respect to taking good care of yourselves.

Nettser, as you can well figure out, juicers are like most any tool as there are good ones as well as great ones. The juicers that turn really fast destroys many of the vitamin content and turns the juice into mostly sugar because of the heat it creates but they are advertised so well that many who have never been into juicing get sucked up into buying them from TV commercials. I have several juicers which are for different veggies and fruits. The Champion will juice carrots and other hard foods where as the Green Life will also do carrots as well as leafy veggies including wheatgrass but at a slower pace. Both of those juicers will also create pasta, nut butters and also homogenize if thats needed.I have a citrus juicer bought at a second hand store great for oranges and grapefruit also a Vita-Mix for making smoothies, ice cream and soups and by reversing the power will heat the soup.
Bob, by searching the web you can find lots of recipes or by searching for drinks for specific needs. I got plenty of books which when I find them I usually buy them for references of course. believe it or not I once had an apple press and used it weekly but now just buy non pasturized cider from a local grower. I buy all my fruits and veggies locally and organic and even with the rice I make my milk with.
You'll all learn and some the hard way on which veggies go with which and fruits etc. than you'll find several you can't do without. I personally never buy any juice in any kind of container cept when I'm at a juice stand in Florida which I haven't been for years or the cider from a specific grower here.

nettie, thanks! Been losing weight so long now it's amazing I even still have any left to lose! Every time I get down to "the last 20" it seems like there's another 20 right after that, but I think this time I'm actually there - maybe!

Down 30 lb since Feb. Doing the gym thing for the last 2 weeks, 10 lbs over that time. 30 minutes treadmill and upper and lower body strength training. I'll add abs next week then going for the long haul. Turned 56, so I'm taking a little better care these days.
Q.I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life; is this true?
A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it... don't waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap.
Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables? A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And a pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable products.
Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake? A: No, not at all. Wine is made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine, that means they take the water out of the fruity bit so you get even more of the goodness that way. Beer is also made out of grain. Bottoms up!
Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio? A: Well, if you have a body and you have fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc.
Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program? A: Can't think of a single one, sorry. My philosophy is: No Pain... Good!
Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you? A: YOU'RE NOT LISTENING!!! .... Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil. In fact, they're permeated in it. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you?
Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle? A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach.
Q: Is chocolate bad for me? A: Are you crazy? HELLO Cocoa beans! Another vegetable!!! It's the best feel-good food around!
Q: Is swimming good for your figure? A: If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me.
Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle? A: Hey! 'Round' is a shape!
Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets. And remember:
'Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a Ride'
AND.....
For those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health. It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies.
1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
3. The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
5. The Germans drink a lot of beer and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
CONCLUSION: Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

Going great for me. I worked out at the gym yesterday and worked on my quads, doing the whole rack of weights. I did the rest of the usual leg and glute muscles as well. I've started taking a new supplement which has carnitine and a couple of other amino acids.
Nettie I have a Juice Lady too and I love it!! The stainless steel sure makes it easy to clean up. I can feel the energy within 15 minutes when I juice something good like celery, carrots, apples, and maybe half a beet.

This is a weird summer. I go from breakneck stress (work and renos, up at 6) to complete laziness while recouping (camping, up at 10) so my body is much like a boomerang. Haven't given much thought to official excercise in some time. I need to stabilize what's going on and get back on a program of sorts. Cody just started summer daycamp/daycare 3 days a week and since I'm not mobile all those days, I have no excuse.
Does juicing remove fibre benefits? I haven't been downing a whole lotta veggies lately (except corn on the cob) but do extremely well with a whole spectrum of fresh fruit and yogurt together. Need to up the veggies but don't desire the extra 'food' aspect. Juicing might be the answer... for now I get that bolt of energy from my AM coffee. Not good but then again sooo good.
I can't find my scale. It's buried under some tarp in some room. I have no idea what the weight is doing but I seem to have slimmed up some as my clothes are abit baggier. I suppose the reno work is working off my weekend s'mores. whew..

I am still at 20# lost. None of my clothes fit "right" anymore. I did try on a bathing suit I bought last fall on clearance, I think I need to get a pair of butt pads to fill it out. It fit in October. I found Denise Austin on ESPN2, they had taken her off of Lifetime. So come Monday I am going to start working out with her again. Love....Jill

Sometimes you just forget the simplest most basic things. Exercise 101: "Start off slow and don't overdo it." I don't know why I didn't think about this Saturday but I was working out at the gym and saw that we had a new machine by the squat press. I had just done three sets with the whole rack and was feeling pretty good about it. In fact, it was so easy that I decided I would go back to the free weight room and put twelve 45# weights on the bar and do a couple of more sets. Before I did that I figured I'd check out this new machine. "Leg Abductor Muscles" it said. Hmmmm... sounds good to me; lets get R done! The whole rack was 295# so I started off at 205. It was pretty easy so I let that be my warmup set. It was just like watching the Thighmaster commercial. I put the pin down another 30#, did another set, added another 30#, did another set then looked down at the bottom ...30 more pounds to get the whole rack. I can do this. I put the pin all the way down and grunted my way through a set of 8, a little short of a full set but I had given it all I had so I was satisfied. I went on to the back and did a couple of more sets with the free weights and did my other regular leg exercises, got my protein smoothie and left. By the next morning I knew that I had royally messed up - and remembered "Exercise 101". This morning I am laughing at myself for being so stupid and can barely walk for the pain. Leg abductor muscles go from about half way of the inside of the leg, a third of the way around, from the doo-dads (if you're a man) to the knees. Lesson learned: "No matter how good of shape you are in, don't overdo it if you're exercising a particular muscle that you haven't targeted before!" Jake where are you?; I need my chops busted.
