Heard about this and have put nitrogen in both our personal car and shop truck. If you haven't heard of it ... the skinny is that nitrogen does not fluctuate with the temperature changes like regular air does. Therefore by filling your tires with nitrogen you have the optimum amount of pressure in your tires at all times -- thus improving your gas mileage.
I expect to save the $20-$25 it cost to have this done relatively soon especially with the cost of gas as high as it is.
It took about 15 minutes to do each vehicle. They basically take all the air out of your tires. They do it twice. Then they have a machine that makes the nitrogen and they pump it into the tires. They then put green caps on the valve stems to notifiy others that nitrogen was put in.
I have been checking the personal car that has a computer check of tire pressure and the pressure has never waivered, unlike it did when I had air in the tires.
Just thought I'd pass this on to those who do not know about it.

Yeah, I've been putting gas in my tires too. Done the Camry, Avalanche and the Z car so far, but I'm going to stop for a while before I do the Suburban. My butt's getting sore.

I put Campbell's Pork and Beans, in my tires so the beans go to work at about one mile and my only complaint is...the tires squeel more than usual on a turn. The ride is to die for. But I keep a clothespin handy,

Actually you will find that many of the larger trucking companies are running strictly nitrogen in their tires. Nitrogen molecules are larger than air molecules thus reducing the leakage factor. Also nitrogen is much more stable than compressed ir since the moisture level or lack of, in nitrogen is consistent unlike shop air. I dont have the specifics of it, but it is the new big thing in tires.

Yeah, that can be a real bugger... especially around here in the winter, eh?

That's pretty cool, Bill. Where can I get nitrogen in the Rockford area? I hope I can find it or I'm going to resort to methane that the cows give after eating Jack's beans! Jack, those are magic aren't they?

Thanks to Bill for the eye opener. I've never heard of such a thing. New tires are on the schedule for my old truck this month. Sure will consider this lead.

Interesting read but on the whole I'd have to say probably not worth spending on... I've never had trouble in the past maintaining correct air pressure, doubt if I will in the future...
