I've glued up some cedar planks and want to produce an antique sign. I don't want to end up with opaque colors though. I want the grain to show through.
How do I achieve a rich patina and aged look?

thin your paint down and "skip and miss" stroke. after this dries belt sand it to remove more paint. to achieve a patina I use tube acrylic mixed to dirty brown or rust color thinned down. wipe on with a rag then immediately wipe acros with clean dry cloth to remove excess medium.
