Just wanted to see what the average price per square foot is if you are getting these type prints made. Just interested in the printing price not including the substrate(I can figure that myself). Also if you are printing with a flatbed what do you charge, and with what machine are you printing. Just doing some price checking. [Wink]

Thanks. TJ

Hi TJ

I sub out my printing work, the companies that I use vary between $3 and $7 per square without the material. The $3 is rare, and only because it is a large company doing a large project for me.

Anyone else get any quotes or pricing on flatbed printing services?

Thanks.

I use SignPro in Billings, Montana, which is owned by Jack Rumph, Jr., the son of the late Jack Rumph, who produced The Signwriter's Pricing Guide. I pay about $6.00 per square foot. They do fast turn around, can register to cut cut shapes on their router and offer reasonable packaging and shipping.

Thanks, so the $6.00 is just for the printing though, right? The rest is extra?

Yes. Sometimes, there's a nominal fee of $25 to $35 for file prep work, depending on how complicated my requests are.

Thanks for your help David. The reason I am asking is that we have had our printer for about 2 weeks and we are trying to decide on how we will price things. It is usually the hardest part. What kind of machine are they running there in Ok. We have the Mimaki JF-1631. So far so good.

Hey Bruce that sounds like they are pretty close to "giving" the work away.

TJ, WOW! That new Mimaki looks awesome! We have a four year old Mimaki that has really helped our business grow. It has been almost trouble free and now we're looking at a flatbed like yours and also the new gerber ion. How has the new flatbed been working for you? What type of substrates have you printed on? How is the output resolution? I am very interested on ink costs per square foot. We've been using bulk Triangle solvent inks and our costs are very reasonable. Do you have any problems with odors/vapors...I understand these are UV inks. Does your printer have the white ink and/or clear?

I probably have too many questions to answer on this thread, I'd like to talk to you if you have the time and willingness to share some of your experiences. Congratulations on your investment, I hope you have much success with it.

Yeah Tony this is an amazing piece of machinery. We have only had it for about 2 weeks now and the potential for it making money for us really exciting.

The printer is working great so far. We are running with 6 colors C,M,Y,K,Lm,Lc and 2 whites. But it can be configured a number of ways. Like any piece of equipment this sophisticated it has its quirks, but overall is easy to run. We are printing on anything we can think of so far just basic stuff though: Komatex/Sintra, acrylic, glass(prints beautifully by the way), paper cardstock, coroplast(kind of tricky with the heat from the lights), and a few others.

There are many variables to look at when you are researching. We looked for about 2 years before we made our decision. There are alot of things that salesman do not tell you. I have found out that most are not intentional though. There is alot about these machines they simply do not know. But they should learn. We bought ours through Advantage Sign Supply, but Mimaki does all the install and service.

As far as the Gerber machine and some other things, I will try to give you a call later.
