The "IceBox" of the Nation, International Falls Minnesota claimed the "OFFICIAL NAME" from the US Gov. beating out Littleton Colorado! International Falls is where the cartoon "Rocky and Bullwinkle" were from, only they used "Frostbite Falls, Mn" for their name.
If you have not been able to gather by now, us Minnesotan's are proud of our Weather! We love it...in fact this weekend is another below zero party!!!! I'll take this over hirricanes ANYDAY! The Cold keeps the bugs down, some.

I'm sorry. I'll take my chance with hurricanes. It's a cloudless sky today, brilliant sunshine, about 70 degrees... absolutely beautiful. It's hard to imagine PREFERRING below zero weather to what we have outside right now...

I've said it before and I'll say it again; it was a sick twist of fate that had me born into an indigenous Georgia family. I'd be as happy in -30 weather as a moose in the kiddie pool. I watched the movie "Mystery Alaska" again last night; it's one of those movies that I live my life vicariously through. I love ice hockey, snow, ice, moose, caribou, boreal forests, glaciers, mountains, tundra, (oh no, it sounds like I'm writing a personals ad; might as well throw in "long walks on the beach" too). Eh? Doncha know.

Mike, I have an two uncles and aunts who live in Wisconsin, so I'll definitely try to make it up there... wouldn't mind getting over to see them and then hitting the meet...
My wife is not a cold-weather person either, but she loves to ski. Maybe I can lure her up there by telling her it's a 'ski' trip.

Up until about 2 years ago I was living and working in Menomonie, WI, My home town. It is located about 30 miles west of Eau Claire. I have cousins in the Barron area....well known for it's turkey and like most places in Wisconsin...Bars!
I think your wife might be a bit disappointed with the skiing in WI. Probably be better to ski off Mike's roof after a visit to the local saloon!
I suggest putting her on a snowmobile late at night and take her up to about 90 miles per hour on a frozen lake.....there are ski's involved so I guess you could call it skiing.
If you want to do some snow skiing come on up here we have lots of places to slide down hills.
How far you from Talladega? I'm thinking of coming down for the spring race.
You were a neighbor of a good friend of mine from Eau Claire, Herm Johnson, pinstriper and former first driver of John Menard, winnest stock block driver ever...crashed in four qualifing for Indy and put end to his driving career, replaced by that kid, you know, Tony Stewart, the rest is history....Herm's family ran the "White House" in Eau Claire, a really good, classy resturant...small world eh?

Frank...I remember seeing some of Herm Johnson's custom painted vans back in the day...they were really cool. Back when my cousin Punky was driving late models all over the midwest and Canada.
And I remember the very first Menards store on the west side of Eau Claire....now ol' John owns a boat load of stores and sponsors a few race cars. With his son driving one of them.
It is a small world.....and a cold world up north of Mike a ways....ya have to love it.
As far as snow goes...we just got a few more inches today....it helps to weed out the really poor drivers....I had to dodge a couple yesterday out getting groceries.....you have to pay close attention when pieces of plastic start hitting your grill!

Hey, Nikki, I've heard y'all have really great summers! Although you hope it falls on a Saturday, so you get to enjoy it...
Edited to add: Dale, we are quite a ways south of Talladega. In fact, we are just across the state line north of Pensacola, FL. Also, we really do want to come up to your area to hit the slopes sometime. We went skiing up in the Poconos in Pennsylvania last year...

We have a "Winter Storm Warning" here today. We're supposed to get 1-2 inches of snow this afternoon with an additional 2-4 inches tonight. Could shut the town down for a few days, cause it's not supposed to get above 30 before Thursday.
Saturday the high was 64, and I was outside in shirtsleeves all day.
We get 4 or 5 "winters" each year with a short "spring and fall" between them. Works well for me, cause I like to see the snow falling, and I like to see it on the ground in the morning with no tracks in it, then I really like to see it leave.
