I was recently presented to a few ladies that were in the process of opening a new business. Originally, all they wanted from me was a price for two flat awnings.

I asked to see what kind of artwork they were to put on and they showed me some design that came out of your standard graphic shop that think they know everything...

I then asked them if they cared for my 2 cents... they were going to get my opinion either way, but at least they agreed.

They told me that the kind of boutique they were opening was fashion for women, but with a personal touch. Not just grabbing pants off the rack and showing up at the cash, but more like, here's a coffee or a tea, and lets talk about what you like, where you work and all that lady stuff.... you know what I mean.

The business name is Moi, which means Me, so that the clientele focus on themselves. I said cool, that calls for a signature style logo if it's going to be personal... bla, bla, bla my usual personal touch speach.

They were receptive and here's what they got. The first one on the top is what was presented to them originally... and they wanted money for that....pfff!! The second one is their new logo, this is going on their awnings, bags, business cards, etc... It was hand drawn, scaned and edited. Took a few more minutes than picking some fonts off of a list, but they can call this one their OWN !!!

The script turned out really nice. Much better than their first option.

Am I the only one that sees an insect in the oval? I can't help it; that is the first thing that jumped out at me.

Looks really good, Rene. Much better than what they had from the 'graphics' people. I always like hand-drawn scripts.

Russ, I didn't think of an insect when I first saw it. I did think if he had put it the other way, it'd look like a jelly-fish. I guess that comes from going to the beach too much. (As it is, Rene, I like it..)

Love the logo, Rene- Moi intertwined looks like two people facing each other, having a chat, & maybe the bits at the bottom are crossed legs or knees pulled up- all suggesting what the client wanted- a cosy chat.

(actually though, I didn't mind the idea behind the original one though- a bit harsh, but it does have some merits- but I'd shrink the white outline around mode feminine, a bit)

Nice design, funny, until I read about the bugs, it hadn't dawned on me that the logo, (reflected on end), resembled a insect, hmmmmmm...forget what that's called, there's a name, it just escapes me at moment, Mark Whatshisname is famous for em, he'd know how to properly title effect, none the less, great idea...

Hi Rene...Very nice re-do...They should love the relaxed inviting feel you have developed for them...I posted earlier but I must of pushed the wrong button cause it didn't post...We mnotice the play on Moi right away for the logo, nice...It will certainly get people talking and noticing til they figure it out or are told...What a great smile maker as they leave the store.

I like what you did, much more inviting. The one they had looks very institutional, rigid... definately not what their plan for their shop is all about.

But, what I first saw was the sketch of the female reproductive system we all had to study in health class.

Frank, I thought it was the insect you had forgotten the name of. [Smile] I did see the Moi reflection earlier, but didn't realize there was a name for that technique.

I think the word Mr. Forgetful was looking for was 'ambigram' Russ... however, it doesn't quite qualify, I don't think, cuz it's reversed if you view it from the other side.

I like this post, everyone is giving their insight on what they see. The purpose of the logo is well served, if the eventual client base does the same, people will talk of their logo and create even more interest.

It took a few posts before people realized the logo was actually a repeat of the wordmark on its side.....interesting.

Jon, I'm not sure this qualifies as an ambigram, they usually are word that you flip upside down and they can still be read, but it doesn't really matter if this has a name or not, I think it's cool !

Thanks for the nise comments [Cool]

No this is not an ambigram but as 'Magoo' stated it is a reflective image.

I didn't caught onto this until Frank pointed it out.

I am still not sure about its look.

As many have commented that it looks more of a females body or an insect.

But like I said earlier I am not the person flipping the bill.

Very good work...
Clean.

But female praying mantisses (sp?) are ulra women, biting off/eating the head of the male while their little insect bodies are still engaged in the act of multiplying.
Now that is one tuff chick! Crunch!

Anyway, it is a huge improvement. I for one would have liked to see a brassiere somewhere.
