I'm looking for ideas on how to back up/stiffen a 80"x144" carved sign. It will be single sided wall mounted. It will be shipped to the customer and they will install. The sign will be one piece. We were thinking angle iron or square stock inset into the back I have seen someone back up a sign with fiberglass before but I don't know if that would stiffen it enough. I would like to keep the weight down as much as possible so I don't want to back it with mdo or such. We fiqured the foam alone will be about 250+ lbs. We are just quoting this but have not done any quite this large before and may not bother it depending on what we come up with. Just a few words no logo it's fairly simple any ideas on price?
Thanks

Most of the large shops would weld up some aluminum frame and mount the HDU to it.

Hiya Eric, is the sign a rectangle, square or a custom shape and how thick is the foam you plan to use? If it's just a rectangle or square, angle iron around the edge would help, but I would suggest following john's recommendation and build a frame. Just be sure to incorporate least a couple lifting points so it can be lifted or moved with some sort of crane.
Havin' fun,
