Hi guys. I recently quoted a little over a grand for a 2 sided 2' x 4'x 2" grainframed sandblasted HDU sign to a store in a mall. My contact in the mall told me these people said that (in the States) they $500.00 for these signs. Naturally I believe they are just trying to get a deal, but really, how much does this cost? Simple, text only (logo is text as well, something like Microgramma) & no install. Or did I really go too high?

TIA,
Felix

Felix - this morning I sold two 4' x 8' single faced dimensional signs (woodgrain background made with our ShopBot) for $3,500 each with no installation. (1.5" - 15# Corafoam with a .75" MDO backing.

That's a little over $100 a square foot, which is just about our going rate. If there is gold leaf, carving, or additional stuff the price goes up from there. Posts and installations are priced accordingly.

This time last month I was laying in a hospital with no work to do in the shop. Within the last few weeks we have sold over $40,000 worth of work and still figuring more.

It's a crazy business for sure. We lose a lot to customer just like Amy and Felix have mentioned but then we get a bunch also.

When someone tells me that they can get the same sign for half what I charge, my response is always, "Then, that is who you should get to do your signs".

Your example would probably run about $1,300 to $1,500 if we did it here. I would like to see what this guy gets for $500.00

Because its just text I would only charge about $1200. Canadian. [I Don t Know] But I would normally charge about $1680. for that- if it had to have a scene/illustration of a tractor, their cow, picket fence and dog, and a couple d*mn sheep, 3 of their 7 kids, and 4 local seed company logos (that have to be drawn because they still haven't got efiles for them). [Roll Eyes] Like 99% of my sandblasted signs have. After all it's 2 sided- so that's 2 tractors, 2 dogs, 2 cows...........

I think its another you get what you pay for scenerios. Maybe they could get it in the States for $500. But who's to say its going to be as well done as the one they just got from you. Is it 2" thick etc. etc. from the people thay got it from before? You don't know. And they probably don't either sadly enough. I think your price is very fair.

My standard price is $65 per square foot.
70% more for the 2nd side. This includes a nice shape and design.
If its just a rectangle with a line or 2 of copy, maybe $50 s.f.

Two sided as you describe...

$1020 plain rectangle shape with text only.
$1162.80 with fancy shape

Two sided, two panel with extruded internal braces.

$1270 and $1448 respectively.

Even more with logos and other bells and whistles etc.

How's that Harbour Freight pot doing?
I still use mine sometimes.
