Well, it's a loud and raucaus group of ppl. inhabiting the shop tonite, it's 3:30am, Sunday morning, and the party started shortly before 1am when track/nascar officals offically declared my nephew's racecar legal after post-race inspection was completed, as this was a championship bid, they tore it down to the crank, heheh, car and parts are somewhere under all those ppl.....and about 3 tons, seriously, of confetti....nephew is parading around w/his new cake dew, new daughter in his arms, no one insisting baby be in bed, not tonite, her daddy is a national champion tonite.....after 7 yrs. of running for it, and finishing 2nd the last five, it's due and more than welcome....it will also open Craftsmen Truck door for him wider, ya, it's been a good nite....guess we can't compare him to Mark Martin anymore, heheheh....
In case it's escaped those what I'm talking about, my nephew who races nascar professionally, won his national title tonite by one point.....it's been a nail-biter for the last three races, the previous costing us a very expensive rearend, which we broke tonite again and had to thrash hard to get it fixed in time for the main....but we did, and finished second in race and wrapped up enough points to win by one point, that's tight racing folks....
To celebrate, we're partying till dawn then all traveling to the lake and watch last day of offshore boat race for championship being run there, friend of mine has opened his pits to "new" champion and entourage, in other words, a bunch of drunks, heheheh.....he'll think differently next time, lol.....
Anyway, I'm back to the party, nephew is beckoning, so good ppl., I'm off to PAR-TAY !!!!!

Sounds like a winning weekend all around. Congratulations to all of you!
We have champion here in town again, too. Mike Olsen, a long time customer and friend, just won his second Nascar Busch North Series title for the Little Trees racing team.

CONGRATS... I can imagine celebrating a win... but a championship and that close! WOW. Both drivers did everything they could and for it to work out for a 1-2 finish and then be that close. Again, congrats to him for staying cool and doing what it took...
I keep up with the Nascar Touring series since I spent over a year on it as a tire changer in our southern division.. it was called the All-Pro series then.
A lot of the drivers I became acquainted with have moved on to the Craftsman Trucks, ARCA, and some even to the Busch Series... so good luck to him! Maybe we'll see him in the Cup series one day! GOOD LUCK!
EDITED TO REMOVE INCORRECT LINK...

ohhhhhhhhhhhhh, my head hurts, ohhhhhhhhhhh.. (jus' kidn', I don't drink-I was driver)
Boat races were awesome; while watching, we listened to Talledega, one fact I'd like to share, as one of the nascar guys went 207 today, so did one of the boats out here, unreal...also, a triple outboard clocked 171, also awesome,(of course, wind was minimal and water was like glass, good speed water), good races, lots of cool boats and transporters.....lots of beach bunnies......
One thing about these boats I find so cool, is fact, they are so big, some stretch out to 60' or more, though most vary between 55'/66' for some reason, and wide, something like 15'/22'......even the trailers were works of art, very cool day.......reminds me of youth w/Dad and his unlimited hydroplane days, big boats!!!
That should take you right to article/pics, cutie in Daddy's arm is Sonja w/Amy looking on, great match and so far, good kid....heheheh
Hey Ray, my champion can kick your champions butt!!!
Thanks all, he's in seventh heaven today, lol, and probably into next week, even though he has a race car to put back together and get ready for big bucks shootout in Nov.....he will now also go into Craftsman Trucks as winning also garnered him the sponsership he needed to run a full year, kudos neph......did I mention I taught him everything he knows?
Hey Jon, that tire changing is worse than carpet laying on those ol' knees....lol

I removed my link, Frank... Wow, all top ten finishes for the whole season. That's impressive.
Again, congrats to your nephew on his win and on his move to the trucks. I'll definitely be watching for him next year and wish him luck.
Hard on the knees? I learned one thing early on, don't ever take those knee pads off during a race... your driver suddenly pits and sliding to a stop on your knees on 15 year old pavement isn't pleasant. I actually enjoy spotting better.

being a two time national motorcycle roadrace champion, I'll tell you he will be on a high for about 3 weeks!!!! After the high wears off it will be back to getting the car ready for next season, new sponsors, etc.
Congrats

Its because of all those funny looks you gave him and all that yelling at him to get his act together that made a winner out of him. Oh and of course alot of help from Scotty the WonderDog.

Laura; his name is Scott Gafforini and he races Nascar late models, division three, go to link I posted for info from track here.....
Harris, ya let the cat out of the bag, now everyone will know how to guide a nephew, lol.....though I must admit, he lays credit for his racing career on three men in his life, his Dad, me and Smokey Yunicks equal, Phil Hayes, (absolute genius of oval track racing, responsible for race cars for the likes of Roger Mears, Coast Corvettes, both of which went to multi-championships, works 18-20 hr. days since I can remember, always five steps ahead of the game, incredible person).....between Phil and his Dad Roger, they built and maintained all his racecars, including championship go-carts he raced, Phil and his son went on later to win their respective championships in carts too. From there he won a championship in the Toyota race program in open well cars. He returned to local racing so he could be near his real joy in life(pre-baby), building hotrods. I guess my contribution was the love of hotrods and integrity, I just simply taught him that the only easy day was yesterday, a lesson he learned real well......I could go on all nite about the kid......(kid, heheh, he turned 39 two months ago)
Jerry; Ya, heheh, he'll be in cloud nine for abit, heheh....already putting a parts list together for cash shootout here the end of November, got's to fix a rearend, seems we tweaked housing and it ate new one Sat. like Hogans goat, so........new one(this makes three) coming.....would be nice to also put the real cash in pocket too, that would make a GOODyear, heheh....
OP, I'm ignoring you, la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
