Does someone know (or have experince with) what the durability of the 1-shot metallic gold will be when applied to pvc dimensional letters for an exterior sign. I'm not hearing good things about it so I thought I'd ask

metallic gold outdoors is worse than the other solid colors. it loses its gloss and then fades out to a nasty rust looking color.
siler, gold, copper they are very nice looking out of the can but no worth a damn in durability. In my opinion metallics have never lasted outdoors very well even before one shot started to suck.
best bet is to get a single stage automotive or a basecoat/clearcoat if possible. That damn one shot aint gonna get you nothing but a callback

I have had good luck with Kemp's Perma-Gild. Also the Ronan Aqua Leaf is nice stuff too. Here's another vote against the 1-Shot in this case. love....jill

Same holds true with most, if not all, metalic vinyls; they just don't hold up like the solids. The metalic paints I've tried do suck (1 Shot and Chromatic) so I just use imitation gold if I can. If you explain it to customers you can usually sell them out of using it, maybe even upgrade them to real goldleaf! I have not tried the Kemp or the Ronan that Jill was suggesting but if she plugs it I'm sure it's good stuff. I've used Kemp's guick gold size and it's very good.

So far, I have used the Aqua Gild (copper) on a sign that has full sun exposure. Put the sign up last year and it still looks swell. Did it on another sign that same summer, again, looks great. I have the Bright Gold on a sign I did last week...it does not cover as well as the copper. And my friend Rick D'avanzatti was the one who told me about the Kemp's. It lasts about 4 years here before looking tarnished. love....jill

size the art work as if you will gild it wait for a strong tack..then dust with bronze powder...choose a powder that resembles gold burnish well then clear coat with urethane... looks like real gold and lasts

Golden brand paints...google it and you can order it on line. Kinda hard to brush , but you can do it and it will last just fine. Don't hurt to clear coat it either.
I use it opposed to gold/copper leaf. From 5 ft. away ya can't tell the difference.

"metallic gold...pvc dimensional letters for an exterior sign"
Coat the lettrs with XIM adhesion promoter, spray with aersol gold automotive basecoat paint and clear.
There's not a whole lot of metallic paints that take to bare PVC out there and adding the adhesion promoter is a good first step, no different than a body shop would on a plastic bumper on a car. Auto parts stores often have touch up aerosol cans, some with nice gold colors. If they have the system, paint suppliers now can mix basecoat and enamel paints in house as aerosols. Great way to do some spraying without the cost of all the related equipment and mess.
Any metallic paint finish looks better and holds up longer with clearcoating in my experience.
Hope this helps... Rapid
