Have you ever noticed your reading patterns on the BB?
Are there certain people whose posts you are always drawn to?
Is it because they are motivational, inspiring, informative, funny, moving or interesting?
Is it because they are negative, train wrecks, stupid, obnoxious, funny , moving or interesting?
Do you buy into them? Which ones? Why?
Why in the world would we let someone else's negative attitudes affect our day? Is it because we are protective of this bit of our world? Is it because we want to feel sad? Is it because we just want to feel anything? Do we buy into the positive ones in the same way?
Do you get wound up in others misconceptions? In battles that you have no part in? Do you allow your dislikes of others here to taint your life? Do you allow them to goad you into being less of a person than you really are?
Are you a negative poster? If so what do you think it is that draws people to your posts?
Are you a positive poster? What kinds of people respond to your posts?

Have you ever noticed your reading patterns on the BB? Yes, I have noticed I spend way too much time reading posts here.
Are there certain people whose posts you are always drawn to? Yes, there are. I read some people's first and the others get saved to the end to read when there is nothing new to look at.
Is it because they are motivational, inspiring, informative, funny, moving or interesting? Yes.
Is it because they are negative, train wrecks, stupid, obnoxious, funny , moving or interesting? Yes.
Do you buy into them? Not necessarily
Which ones? Depends on my mood or mental state.
Why? Because men PMS, too. We just don't feel the need to give it a name.
Why in the world would we let someone else's negative attitudes affect our day? Because we can.
Is it because we are protective of this bit of our world? Yes.
Is it because we want to feel sad? Yes.
Is it because we just want to feel anything? Feeling pain or PO'd beats not feeling anything at all.
Do we buy into the positive ones in the same way? I like to think so.
Do you get wound up in others misconceptions? Sometimes.
In battles that you have no part in? Yup.
Do you allow your dislikes of others here to taint your life? I have.
Do you allow them to goad you into being less of a person than you really are? Not anymore, if I can help it.
Are you a negative poster? I would like to think I am not but I know I have had my moments.
If so what do you think it is that draws people to your posts? Car/trainwreck syndrome.
Are you a positive poster? I'd like to think so.
What kinds of people respond to your posts? Hopefully, nice people like you.

Actually, including Kelly's second post, she asked 19 questions.
I like the more light-hearted topics and when things start getting "serious" with people debating over insignificant details, that's when I quit reading a thread altogether even if it could contain useful information somewhere.

I come to the BB for entertainment, encouragement, some laughs and for knowledge. WHen I see certain folks names related to posts I will automatically go to them first. Some I start to laugh before I even click for I KNOW it will be funny... sometimes at my expense... and that is just fine.
Is it because they are motivational, inspiring, informative, funny, moving or interesting?
I tend to lock into the folks who I know are all of the above. THe few who I know post agrivating or controversial posts I tend to ignore.
I buy into the positive stuff... the rest I simply pass. Life is too short to be negative.
Sometimes a person who is having a very bad day will start to affect my day... I don't like to take crap... but when I realise what is happening I willfully change my attitude. Life is about choices.
THere is a LOT of missinformation on the internet... I take it all with a grain of salt. And what works for one person may fail miserably for another. So while I may read a lot I only take to heart what I know is true.
In every conflict, here and in life there are two sides to the story. Judgement calls are senseless if you haven't heard the whole story. Are you a negative poster? If so what do you think it is that draws people to your posts?
I like to believe I am a positive poster... and try my best to be the same in real life too. The folks who respond are likewise... or not I suppose. I know my extremely positive attitude doesn't make everyone happy. It downright IRKS some folks... and that is their rightful choice too.

They say not to judge a book by its cover, but whether or not I open up a thread to read it depends on its title. If it sounds interesting, or if I think I can help with an answer, I'll look at it.
Only later if there's time to kill will I look at possibly negative or less-well entitled ones.
Members who continually post informative stuff, or positive stuff, or work I really admire will generally get a 'prioritised' look-in though!
(edited because I wasn't looking at the keyboard and it misspelled some stuff)

I always read Grampa Dan's too. For both info and positive attitude. I do tend to look at others as well if they are people with a good sense of humour. I have only been upset at one post I read, because I felt it was trying to drag up a fight. So I emailed that person and told them that. I wish I hadn't. I now feel a little cheap for letting myself get dragged in. Mental note not to do that again. I'm afraid it might get muddled in with all the other mental notes though.

Lately I haven't been spending nearly as much time on the board, neither do I read every post anymore like I used to.
If a post is made by one of my friends, someone who I consider intelligent or the subject matter seems of particular relevance to what I do, then I'll open it. I also find I look for certain people's names according to my mood. Any time I see David Harding's name I always open it because his humour delights me! I read all posts by Steve and Barb as I feel they may be relative to the board. Any title that suggests good natured teasing or fun is my first target.
One of the biggest stop signs on a post is the mad icon. Occasionally I'll check out a post with that if the person isn't someone who normally uses that icon, but those who use it like a signature are ignored. There are certain names here that I have begun to associate with constant negativity. I try to be open to what others are feeling, some may have depression, mental illness, bad situations at home, who knows what turns a person's disposition to miserable. Still I try to stay away from those posts because I find I am too impressionable to others moods.
Once a post reaches that fast forward flame mode I usually can't resist finding out what all the fuss is about. Sometimes I get caught up in the train wreck, others I just laugh about it. Usually whether or not I participate depends on whether or not I feel I can make a difference in someone's perception. That is usually an egotistical view. If I feel that someone is being unfairly treated or disrespected it'll get my dander up. I look at most of those posts as a red flag to others insecurities and sometimes I have fun playing with trying to figure out what makes them tick.
Occasionally I'll buy into someone else's anger. Sometimes if someone is very articulate they can convince me of something. Sometimes it depends on my vulnerability on that given day. Sometimes it is because they are my friend. Eventually common sense prevails and I feel bad about doing it.
I am somewhat protective of this playground. I'm very protective of my friends.
I buy into the positive posts, hopefully because that is more condusive to my outlook on life. They help me be the person I want to be. I've noticed that my happiness is directly related to my outlook on how life is treating me. Yet, sometimes when I am feeling a little flat, I'll buy into the negativity too. Funny, that never seems to have a positive outcome.
As careful as I try to be, sometimes my reactions here let me down. The best I can do when that happens is own up to it and apologize.
As far as what kind of poster I am, hopefully not negative. I try to post either informative, humorous or thought provoking stuff. It is interesting to see who answers my posts and the way they get answered. Some answers are humorous, some thoughtful, mostly positive. That's good.

Without getting too long winded, it depends on my mood what I read and what I pass up.
I try not to be a negative poster, but sometimes my editor is out to lunch.
Trainwreck syndrome applies sometimes, but sometimes I can't stomach the gore.
I like Dan's upbeat posts, but sometimes can't stomach all the sugar there in candyland and have to come back to read his posts later when I have some milk. Hehe. No offense intended.
I like the voice of age and wisdom some offer even if it is accompanied by some bitterness and I try to listen through the harshness.
It would be a boring world if everyone was just like me. I like you all and am glad to know you.

Have you ever noticed your reading patterns on the BB?
yes
Are there certain people whose posts you are always drawn to?
that is somewhat true
Is it because they are motivational, inspiring, informative, funny, moving or interesting? Is it because they are negative, train wrecks, stupid, obnoxious, funny , moving or interesting?
no... many posts I'm drawn to by the topic, but the ones I'm drawn to by the people are not based so much on any conscious expectation for their posts to remain true to some standard mood I associate with that person... just because some people here feel like friends, or at least confortable aquaintences... & in a room full of people, I may not limit myself to discussions involving those familiar folks, but I would make a point to include them in my quest for a meaningful discussion. Some folks are like beacons of knowledge who I may not have any relationship with & they might not gravitate to me in a room full of people, but I would gravitate to them still
Do you buy into them? Which ones? Why?
if they make me think, I don't "buy", I "invest" in them... good, bad, or ugly, I am willing to think about what I believe & about what others believe. Different beliefs interest me if they seem to be genuine. So I consider it worth my time to be exposed to what others have to say if they are articulate about why they say it
Why in the world would we let someone else's negative attitudes affect our day? Is it because we are protective of this bit of our world? Is it because we want to feel sad? Is it because we just want to feel anything? Do we buy into the positive ones in the same way?
life is an adventure, many of us can be sheltered in a self-created environment, but going out in the world & being exposed to the cold, wind & snow of the emotional climate around us is part of the diversity of our world, just as basking in the warm fuzzy side is
Do you get wound up in others misconceptions? In battles that you have no part in? Do you allow your dislikes of others here to taint your life? Do you allow them to goad you into being less of a person than you really are?
no
Are you a negative poster? If so what do you think it is that draws people to your posts?
no, neutral

Also would add that Negativity shouldn't necessarily be judged negatively.
Negativity has spawned a lot of positive change throughout history.
Trainwrecks draw people like insects to a big bug light...they happen.
Like Doug...I enjoy the diverse backgrounds and viewpoints that various people bring here. I find diverse discussion interesting....and I don't generally leave a pseudo-debate hating anyone or wishing ill will.
I'm hoping everyone is happy and successful...and I like to acknowledge and encourage posters in the portfolio section. Lot of talent there.
I also tend to pick posts by topic....

I try to avoid negative people in general but sometimes negative posts can be informative and helpful - that is, as long as the person is not crying in their sleeve.
When the negative post is about products gone wrong or product support that is non-existent then I certainly want to know and avoid such products.
Positive posts are good also. It's great to learn from the success of others.

Hey you guys are stealing my schtick. I came back to add that regardless of my mood, if I see a topic with few replies, I'll check it out to see if I can help.
I do feel a sense of duty to help if I can.

I think I just skim over the titles & when something catches my eye, I read it. I don't think I gravitate toward just the person posting the thread, but rather the title.
Yes, I have found myself drawn into the controversial topics sometimes. The reason usually being that I hold strong opinions on a few topics, & when I read someone speaking maliciosly about them, I find it hard to hold myself back from posting in defense! I mean no harm.
Try to picture someone posting a mean spirited post about your kids, or your mother or something like that. Would you be quiet? That is how I feel, & that is why I post during these topics sometimes.
Now if I see someone post that doesn't post often, like that fantastic creative artist...Mark what's his name ..... I always read it, because I know it will be interesting!

I personally look for posts about peoples dogs, grand kids, their eating habits or excersize routines to see if I can interject some sarcasm. otherwise I scan through to find posts about signmaking to see if I can learn something or add my professional opinion on the matter. I rarely ever look at the board and gasp and say something like "oh boy another recipe for pea soup!" I suppose when I see a post with an odd title I do look to see who posted it, and my curiosity peaks. When I start a thread its likely something to do with signmaking or copmpletely sarcastic. Then there is the whole peanut butter issue....
