The wife wanted a new puppy so Saturday I bought this one for her. Her name is Chica; she is 10 weeks old and weighs .9 lb. Her favorite food is PB&J sandwiches with strawberry jelly or jam. She loves long walks in the park and heavy petting.

When I was a kid we had a miniature poodle that had the same food to eat as we did human food! (meat and potatoes, carrots etc.) He lived a very long and healthy life for a poodle (17yrs). I would say as long as PB&J is not the only meal this small dog gets and for the most part if the puppy is feed a good quality dog food this puppy will be just fine. Most people are not dog nutritionists so that is why I do suggest that most people feed a good dry dog food for the most part. Right now I feed my new puppy a human grade dog food called Innova it is very hard for me to get this food locally but I do think it is worth it so I pick it up in the city. Good luck with your new puppy.
One other tip since it is such a small dog people have a tendency to pickup and carry the dog around as a baby try not to do that it causes allot of problems.
Rick put your old tag line back I did not have a problem with your sense of humor.

Aw, how sweet of you to go the whole way to Roswell to get your wife a puppy.
As far as people food is concerned, I go on the advice of my vet who told me it's ok to give them bites of most stuff but not have people food as their main diet and no chocolate. PB is one of the things the vet told me to bury their pills in. It doesn't work for my brats though, thy eat the PB & leave the pill laying on the floor so now they get cheese twice a day.

I think Tracie is the only one that got the joke. I only feed my dogs Eukanuba, official sponsor of the Iditarod Sled Dog Rage. Lotti, the only thing I'd have to worry about smuggling into Canada now is *me*; I'm a persona non grata.

I am curious....how did all the dogs survive before all the fancy dog foods appeared on the market?
I seem to remember eveyone's dogs eating what people ate.... mostly tyable scraps! If there werenm't enough table scraps that meal, then the dog got something out of the back of the fridge.

Si, When my dog was getting older (this was 25 years ago) the vet said to start giving her boiled chicken and rice or ground beef and rice rather than dog food.

Si you are right diference was back then my mother was the cook and she knew how to make some great food and I am sure that our dog enjoyed every meal. As for Iditerod sponored dog food well if they made food that the dogs actually could eat and race with then I would say it was good, but if Walmart sells it or you local grocery store sell it then I say do not feed it.

I think it's totally wrong to feed a dog PB&J sandwiches and is cruelty to animals. If you continue feeding PB&J to your dog, Ricky, I'm afraid I'm going to have to leave and not post here anymore. I fed my Jack Russell Terrier a blueberry muffin one time and he got the squirts for 2 days.
I'm calling your local authorities to see if there's a law against feeding PB&J to animals. I would hate to have to report you.
I just want to tell you, I think you're an irresponsible pet owner and I think your a ummm.. uuummm.. just a really bad man.
And I think you owe your dog an apology.... ....

Actually, the folks that make Eukanuba make it for different ages of dogs because they have different needs at different stages of life. All of their dog foods have a little something extra in them other than just "food". For instance, their puppy food has lots of vitamins and minerals to grow strong bodies and teeth. The mature dog formula is for sustaining maximum health. Finally, the food for older dogs contains condroitin, glucosamine and viagra. To tell when I'm cutting up just watch very closely and see if my lips move.

Hey Si, just imagine what dogs ate before they got handouts from humans! Hmmm.. Dead, RAW and possibly ROTTING flesh!
I saw a commercial on TV for some "Gourmet food for the dog that appreciates nicer things" Wow. The discerning taste of a dog, fancy food for an animal that licks it's own butt.

Sounds like French food Mike! John I had a little male chi once that followed me to the door one day. I opened the door and saw a big pit bull and a lab out in the front yard. Cricket bolted out and chased them out of the yard and about 1/4 mile down the road with me right behind him. I just knew that was the last time I'd see him alive but the little sucker came struttin' back. Quite a pounce bag on that little guy.

OK OK..on the topic of appropriate food for animals..
Why don't they make canned cat food from mice, rats, birds or rabbits??
That's what cats REALLY like!! (30 years of experience tells me that!)
Dogs seem to be less discerning though..they tend to eat or roll around on anything that smells a little ripe..
How about "Fish Gut Gourmet" or "Cow Patty Paté" or "Horse Droppings Delight"??

My daughter's dog had 20 puppies this Spring. We had yellow labs with black & liver colored noses, blacks & chocolates. It took us 9 weeks but we sold them all. All the puppies went to good homes because we screen them all. The AKC is really getting tight and the state of VA is trying to stop all breeders from letting their dogs breed. What will we do if we can't have those dogs to spoil and love?
