well... better late then never, but I finally got a photographer friend to shoot a sign I wanted to enter & I was thinking I had a little more time to get it mounted & shipped... but FedEx needs 2 days for their fastest "overnight" rate. The deadline is having the submission arrive Friday, so I have untill noon tomorrow.

...so, I figured the few questionbs I had should be asked here tonight instead of calling USSC tomorrow.

The spell out exactly how they want entries submitted & spell out that only that way will be accepted...

2 things they mention are unfamiliar terms to me.

they want the photo mounted on "black art board" ?? ..could that just be black foam core? or what?

They also spell out that photos should be mounted with "photo mount adhesive" ?? ...spray adhesive?

Hey Doug,

Last year i went to Office Max and bought whatever black "art board" they had in stock (i forget what it was called). I used 3M spray adhesive to mount the picture.

edited to say: You can buy the 3M spray adhesive at any art supply store.

Thanks Steve!
It must be fun to at least have a horse in the race huh? I'm entering my own shop sign... hope I get it in the mail in time.

Can you describe the board material at all?

Black art board is like a very stiff piece of illustration board or showcard. It's a flat black and solid black through the core.

If you can't find it in your time frame you can usually get by using a piece of black matboard from a frame shop and coloring the edges with a marker.

Patrick is correct above re: "black art board". as far as "photo mount adhesive", 3M will do the job, but for technicality, it is "re-positionable" and "archival" (non-acidic, so it won't eat away at the photograph over time)

I bet you will win!

We used that stuff all the time in school. Some people call it black "matte" board. Just a little info.

edited to say: they do sell the completely black stuff here... so you don't have to color the edges. Maybe you can find that.

what everyone said - the board i bought from Office Max was black all the way through.

Are you coming to Atlantic City this year?
