Hi from ground zero Southern Illinois. We finally got our power restored yesterday (Friday) after a massive storm that blew through here on Wednesday. Wow was it wild. I haven't experienced a storm like that since I was a little guy in the 60's.
In Bethalto, where I live, half of the town is still without power. My shop is about 9 miles away and we were lucky to only be out for a day.
Lots of damage, big trees uprooted, roofs blown off. It looks like a war zone. Streets are blocked off due to power lines being down. It's hard to concentrate on signs at the moment. We got hit again with another big storm last night. It was east of us about 10 miles and now they are out of power too! My sister lives in that area. So about 50 miles of the St. Louis region is without power! St. Louis got hit as well.
On the bright side, there are lots of signs damaged which will need to be replaced! I really didn't think of that at first but my father-in-law did. I guess he's looking out for his daughter's well being! Keep the son-in-law working you know.
I hope everything gets back to normal in a week or so after the cleanup. Man is it a mess around here. I'd appreciate your prayers as we pick up and clean up and carry on. For additional stress, over half of the area gas stations are closed because of power loss as well as most of the restaurants and stores.
Abundance of stress in the Sign Magic Kingdom! Oh yeah, it also was 102 degrees yesterday. Help!!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear you're in a mess there Steve. Stories like this remind me of wy I moved to Upper Michigan. Very little pollution, mild summer temps, our rare tornados are usually no more than an F1, no hurricanes, sunamis, earthquakes, or floods. And low crime rate.
Down side...no customers and the winters tend to be a bit chilly and long.
Good luck at getting things back to normal again.
By the way, heard just the other day that the Upper Peninsula was 10th in the nation for best places to visit.

We rarely have tornados here. The last one was in April 2002, we were at my grandparents. Took about an hour to get home the normal 5 minute drive due to lines & trees down on roads.
During one of our attempted routes, we were sitting at a redlight with Best Western 1/4 mile to right, Holiday Inn 1/4 mile to left. We knew the HI had been hit and at that point I remembered the tornado of 20 or so years earlier ad taken out the BW. With all the driving around we did, we could clearly see the path it took... the entire time it was on the ground, it's path was parallel to the path of the previous one, maybe 1/2 mile apart. Totally eerie.

ive lived in pa/w.va./maine & florida. in 30 years in pa, ive seen snow storms, cold snaps that seem to last forever, what northerners call CLOUDBURSTS, flooding, helacious tornados(one of my freinds sister was killed in one). in maine i seen cold no human should live in, snowstorms that dump 4-5 FEET of snow in one day, wind from the atlantic so cold it will cut you in half. florida, 19 years in sarasota and nothing but oppressive heat from march till dec, deluges of rain and streets that turn to skating rings when it rains....here in pcola, in 98 we got here in july, had 3 HURRICANES IN A MONTH that year. did ivan, and few not worth wasting type about. i dont think there is a "paridise" where you can get it 365 days of perfect weather.....but this is as close as it gets.....nites in the 70's days 90's, little touch of fall in sept, little bit of cold winter weather jan feb, spring here is without MUD, summer normally isnt to hot....yea cept for 1-4 hurricane days....ill stay here.

Glad to hear you are ok, Steve, & didn't lose anything or anyone!
A couple of years ago, a tornado came through about 20 minutes away, & it did a lot of damage. We get warnings but I have never seen one yet. We get some pretty good thunderstorms tho, & I like that! Long as nobody gets hurt!

Good luck Steve. I talked to my dad today, he used to be a St Louis City police officer but now he's retired and lives in St Clair, MO (which didn't get much of the storm).
He said half million in STL are still without power, the roof at Lambert International Airport was blown off, wind relocated headstones at Reavis Barracks cemetery, the new Busch Stadium took a good hit, and one area actually looks like an earthquake hit because winds uprooted huge trees and the roots from those trees plucked the sidewalks right up.
Really glad I moved away from there now!
