I am wondering how many group names actually mean the same thing? Like a letterhead is a person who paints lettering. A Pinhead is a pin striper. But are there sub groups or "new' names for persons who work in vinyl ? Vinyl-head? or "foam-head" do these titles / names exsist? It is all under the umbrella of "sign painters" What about those graphic artists? What other name is given to that person? After all, we are all artist. Right?

Just my personal opinion, but being a Letterhead is as much more involved than what we do for a living. Let's face it. There are all sorts of people that make a living making signs, or some related graphic arts field, that will never be Letterheads. To these people, it's just a job.
Letterheads are a different sort of animal. It's not really that important what we do. Some of us are muli-talented, capable of producing all sorts of different projects. To a Letterhead, their work is everything. They have a fanatical drive to learn and share their secrets with others who share their feelings.
I know I'm sticking my neck out here. Over the years, there have been efforts to duplicate the Letterhead experience, based on equipment, or different materials we use as tools. Letters and lines are something that are born in our brains. The excitement is what we do with those ideas. Letters and lines will be with us forever.
There's nothing wrong with spinoff groups like VinylHeads, EdgeHeads, ThermalHeads, etc. Chevy, Ford and Dodge fanatics will always have a following. The day may come when I sit in an arena, exhibiting my old Gerber 4B and swapping war stories, but I can never see it turning my crank as much drawing letters and lines. That's just my own personal feeling. Others may feel different.
Profit is important, especially if you are trying to run your own business. On the other hand, there are all sorts of artists, musicians and athletes that perform just because they love what they do. To many Letterheads, building wealth will never be a big priority. To each their own.
If you are interested how this whole Letterhead thing got rolling, take a few minutes to read Mike Jackson's History Of Letterheads
