Strange request.... I'd like to find a nice workshop or seminar on "how to be a clown". Nothing long-term of course & the closer to here the better. Hands-on is the ideal.

My grandma made the mistake of telling us she's always wanted to be a clown. I knew that, just forgot so if I can find her a couple day thing to send her to, I'll do it. I doubt she'd be able to stand a week and most things I'm finding in a search are like once-a-week college classes in different states.

Check your phone book for people who do clown acts for parties...hire one of them to teach her one-on-one.

Kimberly, that's the backup plan, but I figure if I find her a day or couple day workshop, the old woman would be in heaven.

Glenn, I love my grandma dearly, but there ain't no way I'd ever ask you to spend a few solid days with her. [Smile]

On a serious note (about clowns)--

You could try looking up "dance" schools in the phone book. Clown classes sometimes end up there, because of mime and physical movement. The other would be acting and "improv" classes. Not sure how close you are to Chicago or other large cities, but that's where I would look.

A quick Google search for "clown classes illinois" turned up this:
Clown Antics Classes

Maybe find out when a circus comes to town, or close by. They sometimes will incorporate some of the locals into a show. She could hang out with the "real" clowns for awhile.

Absolutely Doug, Barbershop Quartets and close harmony groups are just about the most alarming things in nature.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I think sending her to a short workshop would totally thrill her. Course, we'd all pay for it cause it would be all she talked about forever, telling us the SAME story over & over & over & over (in 1 day).

Jill, I totally forgot about her, I'll have to call Pat.

Doug, I'm ok with clowns, mimes & barbershop quartets. I'm only afraid of 2 things. 1 is nuclear war, the other is carneys, you know circus folk, small hands, smell like cabbage. (curious to see how many people catch that one!)

Jake, my grandma IS a real hoot. When I was growing up, she was that annoying grandma ya put up with while Pap was ok. Then one day they suddenly became really cool people. I affectionately call her "old woman", especially when she scares the hell outta me. (I called, heard the phone pick up, then hang up, thinking something happened to her, I literally ran out the door & did 80+ on way to her house only to find out she was arguing with her daughter). She has what we call "roll call" where she calls you by every name in the family til she gets the right one. 1 Christmas I got name tags & everyone wore them. She laughs now, but boy was she ****ed! Us grandkids all call my husband Grandma's "golden boy" because he's the only person we have ever known of that she hasn't ever called by the wrong name. I don't know what my grandpap enjoyed more, us grandkids picking on each other or ganging up to pick on grandma. Either way, he was always smiling cause when us grandkids were around, someone was getting picked on & it was never him. [Wink]
