EXCELLANT time at the Zoo Meet- the classes (formal AND ad hoc) were absolutely slick- wanted to take more than there was time for (better than just sitting around!) Delighted with the hands-on aspect of the classes as well- terriffic leaders! And every question I could come up with was answered! How cool is that!? Thanks, Tod & SOTT! Cat

I really hope all of you involved in the zoo show had a wonderful time. I'm so sorry I was unable to attend. Cincinnati is my hometown, but the timing just didn't work out. Lord willing, next year I'll be there without fail.

Sounds like a lot of fun. There are so many meets, and yet so little time. I made it to Lodi so I can't complain, but I would have liked an opportunity to go the Zoo and take some classes.
My mind wanders. And that's not a good thing, 'cause it's too small to be out there alone. Posts: 3129 | From: Tooele, UT | Registered: Mar 2005

I had an awesome time! Cat was right, the seminars were so informative, all questions answered, & we sure had a lot!!!!! I was wishing it was a week long, & not just a weekend!
I even got a good start on getting my signkit "decorated", thanks to Tramp, Aussie Jon, Don Ecklund, & Dan.
Funny thing tho, I never did get around the zoo to see the rest of the animals, just the ones with the brushes in their hands!

Cat, we must have posted at the same time (I type slowwwwww) Thank you so much for the incredible carved piece you made and I love the "signature".
Bobbie, I'm embarrassed to say that I only saw one polar bear and a lot of sign critters. Like Mark, I didn't finish my panel either - just too many fun people to talk to, although he was well into an astounding lion panel with multiple gold effects. (I thought it WAS finished)
Pam, what the heck is a Yogi Button???

We had a great time too, meeting so many new friends and reaquainting with many we had not seen in many years. Thanks to all the ST staff who made this happen and especially Tod. The Museum has really come along too. We will head home in the morning.

Words can't begin to describe this meet! Todd and ALL of the SOTT gang did a fantastic job! All the seminars were top shelf and extreemely informative. HATS OFF and a standing ovation to those talented guys and gals who generously shared their time, talents, and professionalism by leading the seminars and for spreading their infectious passion for this craft! All I can say is that it was first class all the way.
Thanks to all of you that made this weekend unforgetable.

Yes, yes and yes!! Wonderful time, wonderful folks, wonderful seminars! It's going to take at least a year to absorb what we learned. Didn't see the zoo either but I wouldn't have missed the Museum for anything.
Thanks to everyone and especially to Tod and Wade and SOTT. Happy Birthday, SOTT.

It was so special to be a part of the 100th anniversary toast to ST Publications. It's a Grand Ole Rag, LOL (play on words there!). I can't imagine how much time Tod and Wade put into this - not to mention all their other duties. The financial contribution of the Swormstedt family in creating the American Sign Museum and providing for its secure future really raised my eyebrows; it's not many people that would shell out $300,000 of their own money to preserve our history; that's committment. ...Not to mention all the tens of thousands of books, subscriptions, T-shirts, posters and other contributions ST has made to the Letterheads movement as door prizes, thru the years.
The meet was the perfect size for me. I got to meet several of my newfound buds, Cat, Bobbie, Mark, Mike Barnes, Sarah King, Donald Thompson, Brian "the Brush" Briskie, Steve Thomas Greer, and several others on here and hang out with my long time friends. This was my second Cinci Zoo meet so this time I was determined to see the darn animals so I took a little time Sunday after the wrap and it was well worth the time. I didn't bring my brushes but Brian opened his kit to me and I proved that I still remembered which end to dip in the paint. A **special** thanks to my good friend W.R. Picket for the beautiful gift he made me.
I have to say that the seminars at this meet were the best I think I have ever seen. I've wondered for years how David Butler does those incredible designs. I figured Suzie made all the signs because if David designed only one Letterheads T-shirt a day he wouldn't have time to do anything else. I never figured David to be a closet Photoshop guru but he is. That little tickler "How I Design" seminar just whet my appetite for the class one. I had a blast and, once again, it was hard to say goodbyes and come back to the boring customers wanting their "NOW OPEN" signs but hey, it pays the bills to go the next meet, right?

It was a very profitable weekend - not only by getting to hob-nob with the finest in our craft, but I made some extra money by turning in Ricky Jackson to Canada's Most Wanted.
I come away from each of these things with a new found enthusiasm for our world of signs. Like Ricky said, this one seemed to be the best in a long time.
The Butler's worked like slaves all weekend and had to overcome a lot of problems, but never let the smiles disappear from their faces. They are to be congratulated for going the extra mile...or three. Most never knew what all they did for this gathering and all the ones before it. They are just some very, extra special people.
Tod and Wade have been supporters of our movement from the very beginning and they put their money where their mouth is in putting on this meet.
Lots of new friends were made. It was special to finally meet Catherine and see her eyes sparkle at every new piece of information. Sonny was another that I wanted to get to know - and then spent some of the time shedding tears with him in front of Rick Glawson. Of course, Steve The Giant is now a new found friend whom I will follow very closely...in order to copy some of his work.
Some day I hope to be able to find the words to put down in writing what the Letterheads mean to me and what that Spirit is all about. But I haven't been able to do it yet.
To all of you who made my weekend very special - thank you. Even the cop who stopped me in my rental car.

As a fairly newby Letterhead this was my first meet. Don't let my registration date fool ya as I have been a shadow lurker in and out of here for a few years and only just recently commited to focusing the direction of my business to signs and designs. The biggest benefit as a newby for me was by far the willingness of many masterful designers and craftsmen to share their knowledge. As a 6th year shopbotter I know what it's like to be a member of an unselfish family of crafters and skilled craftsman and am exited by the proposition of extending that family to letterheads. This meet was like going to a magician convention, and the magicians were all willing to share their bag of tricks. I had a great time and can't wait to put some of the things I learned to use. Thank you Todd, Wade, and SOTT.

Hey Crew..... Back in the saddle have to admit I took yesterday off I was burnt out from staying up way to late cartoonin' with the crew on the roof top ............way too much fun! Until next time Tramp and Donny!
Great friends were made many old one rekindled. Had a ton of great laughs and misty eyed infront of the Rick Glawson Exhibit. I didn't even know this talanted guy but just to see the impact that he made on the sign world when everyone rounded the corner from gazing at the sign and everyone came to a complete hault and stood and said nothing to each other and just stared and many people welled up!
The SOTT crew were outstanding throughout the whole weekend. You guys are top notch!
Thanks Again to everyone who attended my seminar....I was so nervous I hadn't sweat like that since my first grade six dance and the 1st slow song came on! HA HA!
Overall the weekend was a huge success!
Until next time......................

Well ok, I'll admit it too; I barely held back the tears when I saw Big Daddy Fine Gold's memorial pieces at the Museum. I couldn't help but think about the beautiful gold leaf mosquitto he did on my office window, the incredible little "IN" and "OUT" glass pieces he made for me, his angel gilding stand he gave me, and the night we were all packed into my tiny little office watching "no patch" Punch Belvin do his magic. Packed into that office was Rick Glawson, Lola Grey, Alton Gillespie, Gary Anderson, Dusty and June Yaxley, Brendon Brandon, Jim Norris, (David Butler I think but I'm not sure), & Ellis Doughty. I thought about how much of an impact Rick has had on our industry and so many people, and what he gave that we would not have today (like Angel Gilding). Even tho he was only 4' 30" tall, he was a giant among men. It ripped my heart out to find out that so many of the incredible pieces that he restored and or created had been sold off for chump change with no regard to their true value. The only solace I find in all of this is knowing that Ron and Kristy Purcell and Sarah King and her hubby have picked up the torch. Bless you.

Thanks David and Suze for all of the things you guys did.
Thanks to all of the people who have contributed items and money to the sign museum. It is FANTASTIC.
Thanks to the night auditor at the Vernon Manor that let my wife, kids, and I check into our room at 5:00am instead of 3:00pm. What a blessing after driving all night.
Thanks to Dennis Gerathy for the panel.
Thanks to everyone else for making me, my wife and kids feel welcomed. We had a great time.

It was a privilege for all of us to be able to host the Safari 2 meet. And I'm kinda embarassed about all the thanks to me because you really need to thank ST's Letterheads' editor, Steve Aust, who was in charge of setting up the speakers and the topics. We really wanted to go back to the traditional type of meet with the formal program and it seems that y'all liked the format . . . so a big thanks to Steve! Some--just some--of the deserving others were the guys out in the striping tent: Dewayne, Dan and Tramp who persevered through the heat and lettered up a whole handful of vehicles (the donations going to the museum); and to Brian and Paulette Briskie, who came early to help set-up, managed the meet's banner production, did the panel raffle, etc., etc.; and Billy Pickett who did the logo and the Welcome Letterheads banner. And all the seminar presenters and of course, the Butlers (with Jeff Lang) for the toast, and the souvenir panels and on and on.
