I am not the expert on software that many might profess to be..but I did read the linked article.
Interesting piece by CNN..
And that was all it was..a report by CNN
I really didn't see any "confession" by Norton but I did see a mention that "other" software had similar problems.
I guess that when reading reports, you sometimes "read into them" what you want to see?
I know I do.

That looks like an admission to me.. That certainly is not a denial..
And personally, I really don't care what you read or do not read.. Do not presume to think for me..

Symantec software has been junk for... well.... ever since Windows came out and they stopped making DOS versions of their programs... and that's been a loooong time.

I agree with Dave, you can't expect all people to read something and derive the same info., we are flawed by emotion and will interpret as we feel.
"looking into something" at a corporate level can mean several things; they can't comment on sensitive issues without legal council, they really were out of the proverbial loop, they do know but don't wish to admit, but I don't think you can take the term "investigating the issue" as a confession to the allegations.

I find the last sentence the most important...
"testing showed the problem affects Symantec Antivirus Version 10, including its corporate editions. He said Symantec's consumer antivirus product, known as Norton Antivirus 2006, and its current security suite -- which includes both antivirus and firewall features -- did not appear to be vulnerable."
My guess is most here that have it, have the consumer version, and shouldn't need to be alarmed.

hahaha... where other companies have a CEO, the company that found this vulnerability has a CHO , the chief hacking officer!
quote:Researchers from eEye Digital Security Inc. of Aliso Viejo, California, discovered the vulnerability and provided evidence to Symantec engineers this week, said eEye's chief hacking officer, Marc Maiffret. He demonstrated the attack for The Associated Press.
I have a 5 license corporate edition of Nortons AV, but I am migrating my network to their Client Security 3.1 next week, because I was up for renewal anyway.
No known hackings or virii on this machine in 4 years, I have had a few spybots but they were dealt with by spybot S&D

There's flaws in all software. It's just a matter of whether someone wants to spend the time to find them. So this news doesn't surprise me. BTW, I can't stand Symantec products because of their intrusive linking to the OS.
There's a bigger story though:
If hackers and their ilk are attacking the virus software that protects our systems we're in big trouble.
