I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask or maybe it already has been asked (I've been gone a couple weeks), but maybe we can get Jim to chime in.
I saw on Summa's site they have a new printer/cutter DC4. In the specs it says it accepts variable media widths 24"-54" but in another section it states it accepts media 15"-54" -- which is accurate? It also states it prints directly on banner material but what kind? Will this puppy fit through a doorway or do you have to build a room around it?

That's a DC4! Any respectable skydiver knows a DC3 has only two engines at the best of times
We had one in South Australia with the registration VH-CAN in large black letters down the side. One night a budding signwriter (I plead the 5th) added 'O'BUS.
A few years back, I had the privilege of riding in the cockpit of a fully restored Continental Airlines DC3 from Dallas to Houston.
I was near DFW airport on a sales call when I learned via the radio that Continental was offering rides for a donation to charity. I stopped by and they were finished for the day. They let me look at the airplane and the pilots came on board and said they were flying it to Houston and I was welcome to tag along.
They were going to give rides in Houston the next day and San Antonio the day following and invited me to barnstorm with them.
Unfortunately, I had other obligations and had to pass on the offer. I stopped by the Continental kiosk, got a ticket on a special sale price and was back in Dallas within the next hour.
Even with a little cockpit time in a "Gooney Bird", my pilot's rating still says: Single Engine Land

Did that budding signwriter plead the fifth afterward or partake of a fifth before the alleged "skywriting" adjustment? Or, was it a combination of both?

Ok now that the joking is done (good one BTW David), maybe Steve can point Jim in this direction to spill the beans on this new product. Or maybe someone can give me a contact email for him, so I can direct him here.
Everything you wanted to know about Summa's Jim Doggett, but were afraid to ask.

Sorry for being slow to respond. I was beyond Internet reach over the weekend. Anywho, 15 was a typo. Thanks for catching that. (fixed it!)
So the media widths are 24 to 54 inches wide. Sorry for the 15 inch confusion. Getting it through the door should be no problem. Crated it's 33.5 inches wide going in endwise. On a standard door opening, that's about an inch of clearance on either side. If you have a narrow door opening, uncrating it gets it down to 25 inches.
As for the number of engines (motors) I count 9, including media drive, cutter head travel, printhead travel, supply roller, take-up roller and a couple that I couldn't tell you what they do :-)
Newly corrected info can be found here. Best slogan I've hear yet comes from our dealer, Digital Art Solutions, who cleverly describe the Summa DC4 as ...
No Ink, No Stink, Less Than You Think.
I think that's it in a nutshell, albeit, I'd add on-demand if it rhymed. Where Thermal Transfer printing excels is in environments that aren't printing all the time. Use it, turn it off (for a week, month or a year) and then turn it on and start printing. It's ideal for long runs, and any time you need a quick image to add to a vehicle, banner, blank or whatever. Instant printing, instant application, any time you need it.
Thanks again for catching the typo!
Best,

I'm glad it's bigger... otherwise I'd want it. I'm crowded in here with the DC3 as it is! I love this machine... I tell it goodnight and sweet dreams whenever I leave the office LOL
