My wife told me she overheard a lady asking one of my competitors here what he charged for a set of magnetic signs. He responded 29.95 a set. He also said he probably needs to charge more, but well you know. No wonder I aint been doing many magnetics.

Seems to me that if all of ya could get your customers to sell magnets for $30/set, it might pay in the long run to keep their cards on your front counter to keep them good and busy.

Yeah Bob, talked to him one day about pricing, and actually told him he was too cheap on most of his stuff. This is actually a vinyl sign thing in a print shop. Y'know, they diversified. He seemed to have no interest in what I was saying. This same guy does 4x4 coro signs for 35.00 each. Boggles my mind so to speak. NOpe Shelia, you aint the only one. I hate em too. Every customer that comes in wanting them, I usually attempt to talk them into lettering their vehicles instead. Some do, some dont. I try though. Recently I passed a church van that someone had done magnetics for. A church van. The only thing it is used for is a church van, but they got magnetics for it. Big ol magnetics too. Im anxious to see how long that works out.

Dan that's a great analogy! And it's true. Come to think of it, I don't do those types of signs unless its for a good friend or a client willing to pay for both the magnetic AND the design that goes with it.

Magnetics, I dont give a hoot about. Now coro signs, thats another matter. We have a county election coming up in may, and I have already done about 3000 dollars worth of election signs. Long as I get the price I ask, I dont mind, and I can knock these babies out pretty quick. I truly enjoy the custom work more, but every now and then, it gets slow in that arena, and this stuff is welcome work.

I'm like Bob. Magnetics and coros are only done as a "service" at my price. It's gotta be worth my while, otherwise I'm operating at a "loss".
But, the can be money-makers! Six years ago a company ordered 20 3x2 Coro signs, 6 color and each with a different "sponsors" name on them. Not cost effective to print. So I did them in vinyl and charged accordingly. Since then they have ordered over $30,000 worth, five or six at a time with different sponsors' names. Most of the colors we cut outa "scrap" vinyl or fit into cutting other jobs.

I always try to talk people into doing their truck/car doors instead of magnetics...but of course some insist on mags. No big deal, we charge almost the same amount of money, and it's easier putting vinyl on a magnetic piece on a table than on a truck door...we'll try and change their mind first, but we'll do 'em.

Some areas around here have home owners associations, and don't allow you to park a lettered vehicle in your driveway or property. They lettered vehicles have to be either in a garage or fenced in area (not visible to the street), or the lettereing covered up. Magnetics is the easy fix.) Also some auto insurance companies won't let you put a lettered vehicle on your normal policy- they make you get a commercial polciy. So more $$ in their pocket.

It must be something in the air... I had a water pump go out on our vehicle this weekend, so I had to call a tow truck to come and get me. I rode back with the wrecker guy and had to grit my teeth as he told all about how the wrecker job was his side job- he was in the vinyl sticker business during his off hours, How he had bought a 12" "Sticka" machine and it was easy, easy money! His claim to fame was a fleet of panel vans for a local heat and air company- but he only charged them $75 per van because it was pretty easy to make the stickers! To top it off- he charged me $90 for the ordinarily $50 tow. I guess he has to make money somewhere.
