I have a customer that has a limited budget ($2500) for a monument sign. It doesn't have to be illuminated, so that helps; however, I'm struggling with how to make this work given the budget restraints. The dimensions are 5ft wide x 6 - 8 ft high and must incorporate a readerboard on the lower portion.

Any ideas?????

You won't be able to do very much with a budget like that. Seriously they need to cough up a bit more money or settle for less sign. I know you can build a sign for that much but you won't make a profit when you're done so whats the point then.

Hiya John,
I have to disagree with Bob, you can make a decent sign for that amount if you choose the right materials.
Here's a small architectural sign I did quite a few years ago for about $1000.
 -

If I remember correctly, the faces were about 2' x 5'. We made them in-house with leftover MDO, paint, vinyl and pt posts.

We did several of these recently.
 -

We paid under $1000 each for the completed, single sided sign. They were 4' tall x 3' wide x 3" thick made completely out of aluminum with vinyl lettering.

If you were to use MDO, I would estimate that you can come in under $2000, not including design.
Here's my figures.
5' x 10 x 1/2" MDO $190
4" x 4" x 16' posts $35
Changable letter sets $250
Paint & Primer $30
Hardware $25
Vinyl & Tape $75
Misc. Supplies $50

Retail value on Materials would be about $1100, which will allow you $1400 for design, fabrication and installation.
If the client already has a design, I would consider upgrading the faces to aluminum or Dibond.
So, even at Bob's rate of $125 an hour, you will have 11.2 hours to complete and install the sign [Smile]

Havin' fun,

Checkers
