Hail fellow sign folks. Please allow me to introduce myself. I am the editor of a sign magazine here in the UK called Sign World. I doubt that many of you will have heard of it, but it is the oldest established sign magazine in the UK since 1967 - not that I have been editing it for that long! I have worked in the graphic arts industry for almost 30 years and have been operating in the UK sign scene for the past three years. I also work (for free) for the Digital & Screen Printing Association in the UK to help promote the benefits of screen printing to a wider market. Since taking on the role as editor of Sign World I can honestly say that I have at last found my true 'industry' vocation in all things sign related. I won't bore you, but what facinates me most at present is the percived difference between the UK 'digital' sign culture and that of the more 'craft' based North American culture. In other words - it is hard to find anyone discussing the merits of one-shot or Kandy Kolors at a UK sign show! There is so much digital happening right now that it seems to be a full time job just keeping up with all of the new technologies. I hope you won't mind me dropping-in from time to time to ask the odd question of you all? I am really impressed with what I have seen on this site and would very much welcome an opportunity to discuss with you how you see the differences (if any) between your industry and that of ours here in the UK.

Hi Collin there are many that watch this board and some very good advice given out, not just from a manufacturer's stand point but by the folks that use these products.

Welcome Colin! I'm sure you'll learn lots of things here. I went to Terry Colley's meet in the UK in 2000 and learned a bit about how you folks in the UK do things...different from us. Congratulations to London for getting to host the Summer Olympics! Judy

Thank you for your warm welcome, and thanks Bob for your kind thoughts. If I might say on behalf of my fellow Londoners that we are used to such things, although not on such a large, co-ordinated scale, but we're never going to let a bunch of terrorist scum prevent us from going about our daily lives. After all, freedom is a basic right in any democracy! Besides, as Judy says, we've just been awarded the 2012 Olympics! And we will still find the time to celebrate this achivement. How good for the Britsh signmaker is that? I'm still trying to figure it out!

As Colin has said, the UK is no stranger to terrorism, we had a sustained campaign against us for many years which included tragedies in most of our major cities. What has happened in London today is horrific and the scale of the attacks and the casualties still isn't known, but again, as Colin has suggested, we'll pull through it and continue with our daily lives as you guys did after 9/11.
Cheers, Dewi

Welcome, Colin. Our hearts do go out to you, & all the people touched by terrorist attack.
I have seen some truly beautiful signage in Signcraft that came from your country. UK? I would rather call it England. It has that nice old ring to it!
