This is just a gripe so sitback enjoy if you like..

SQUEEGEES CAUSE CANCER...
I Needed something strong to get someone looking... A bigger box to stand on.. FREE BEER TOMORROW!!!!!!Did it work?...(save the beer with you until Mazeppa)
Even though you and I are sitting at this Computer not doing what we are supposed to be with this monster...

Yes it is a Monster.

You know prior to the Screwing up of this fine trade by computers, we got to use our brain..everyone used them.. and It was a good thing..
Now we got this GREAT computer we love it. I MEAN LOVE!!! Everyone does it MOM!!! Its ok.. Its just a computer ..come on..
I do... I am not Proud of it.
It is my newspaper, My mailbox, Entertainment, I even got pictures of my kids stuck to it.. Hell I can even order my Dinner too..It is a nice thing.. I enjoy it.
I Spend about 8 hours a day on it.. Wait it was on yesterday from 7 am until 3:30 this Morning.. I painted about 4 hours. SO you can see It is on WaAAYYY to long..!!!

Did Ever you spend that amount of time with your brushes,( Sorry Vinyl People once again)

I did.. I used to ..

Something funny happened again yesterday.. I was struggling with a Stripe Job..Done A Million of them..

BUT!!!! You know what??
I can Type like a Mutha F-er.

Build a computer from a pile of parts..

Load vinyl fast enough to be in the Olympics.

But you know what.. I couldn't get those Damn Flames outlined right. I did.. it took a Hellofa Lot longer than it should have though..

This computer has taken away alot from the True LetterHead.. This is where the story goes south..
I'm Talking the Person Slinging a Brush, no vinyl heya.. Vinyl People do not be Offended.. It's a Paint thing.. You Wouldn't Understand...(sorry Jeep)
I was Old School Sign Boyyee.. I was slinging that brush.. I was traveling town to town.. Lovin' it..I was Brush 24/7.. Paint to Live... Live to Paint.. That was me..

Hell... Most of us have slept with a brush or two...
WHATS SAT YOU SAY???!!!! Slept with a brush??!!!.. Well HELL yeh!!! Thats what happens when you pass out with it in your hand, when you've been workin late , or had 12 to many while stripin' at the local Bike SHop.
Or how about a Slumber party in the Car with the Brushes.( has to doo with drinking too.. Sorry passed out it the car.. Yep brushes were there in the back of Van.Kinda like a Slumber Party I guess??))
Whew! got teary eyed sorry folks back to the Issue.. Or Issues As My Hippie Girlfriend tells me..
This Computer.
Oh This Great Computer!! *grinding my teeth* It has taken more from me than I will ever get back back..

It has taken me from my family... My friends, My Productivity. Or even Me. Enjoying a sunny day, Yep that too.. I have turned into A Junkie.. I can't tell you a Damn thing about what processor it has, what speed this is or that is . I do know I got Flashy Lights, I nice case, and!!!.. Hey I am a Dude..
we got problems with that stuff!!
You know Tool Time.. Tim Taylor.. AH! AH! AH! Big COmputer..AH! AH!!Big Monitor!!

Anyways.. I found something out. I need to put down this mouse...waste less time on this.. Ok starting in the next 10 minutes I won't waste so much time on it. I'll cut back on internet time.. Yeh Right!!!

You ever notice you always want more with these computers. More Memory,More Fonts, More Gigs of Hard Drive.. Software updates, REBOOT!!! Bigger Monitor..

I never needed anymore when I Paint.. more Ideas. I got them..More Panels for the Wall..!!! Oops Ok, So I still have needs..
But these needs, I already have in me.. I got fonts in my head that Atkinson hasn't thought up...Cool End Flourishes Nobody has seen. I can paint that straight line, Outline those flames. And yes Airbrush too..

I just got to do it more... We all do.

Even if you can't, Try it... You will Love It( after about 5 years of struggling ) I do... And Miss It!!!

I have learned many Valuables things in this biz.. My Favorite is what my Dad always told us.. Always give the Customer more than want they pay for...

That vinyl going in the Garbage can make a nice name for someones Kid, Or that last lil Bit of Paint.. Can add another design where they will never find it...LOL

Well Back to the Ol' Grind.. Computer & Paint today.. Tons' of it.. enjoy.. Squuegges aren't cancerous by the way... SOrry for the Panic... I hope it is just malignant...

I hear ya, this day job of rollin' vinull sucks every ounce of creativity from me. I don't sit down with a pencil and start sketching for these people, it is usually the font of the day and the layout of the week (especially for politicians). If it needs to look great, I do it with a brush and airbrush and am doing the first Boston style gild in our state's capitol. How sad is that. There is a joke sign company around the corner and I am sure he doesn't have a clue what gelatin capsules are for.
My Kustom jobs, after the Free insurance day job is over, everything is up to me, I sketch and stripe and gild everything I can. I am not the best letterer or striper, but that keeps me going, always trying to do better and wilder. It is far less cut-throat slinging paint, because there is a respect for those who have taken the time to learn the craft, instead of saying, "I am bored with my job as a chemical engineer, I want to make signs, because I can make lots of money doing that while ruining the environment" (a franchisee here in VT). An $8 can of lettering enamel goes a long way, with very minimal waste. Sure it is slower, but the end result took ability, patience and years of practice. Now get out your pencils and start creating, because the computer doesn't create anything, it just a glowing box that sucks up time.

For the love please call me Pat, I wish I could change that as my forum name.

You're right, I do a majority of stuff with vinyl. More profitable and better results for us. Plus, around here I've got more hacks with a brush than hacks with vinyl.

I do paint though. The only thing I do freehand are window splashes. Why? Because I'm not comfortable charging for what I can handletter right now. I work on it every now and then though. Spend far more time trying to learn to pinstripe even though I seriously doubt I'll ever grasp the feel I'd need to make long, fluid line.

Most of my "painting" is not much more than filling in pounced designs I do on the computer. That said I'm doing pretty well getting those jobs since nobody seems to want to "paint" the stuff I'm doing anymore.

And don't get me started on brushes. I know the difference in good and bad brushes. I spent a small fortune collecting Series 7 sable's for watercolors and cried, I can admit that, the day I came home and discovered they'd been stolen. Replaced most of them but they just aren't the same. My lettering brushes are a hodge-podge collection of Macks, Kolinski's, and a few quills with nothing labeled on them...mixed in with a box full of cheap hog bristle brushes, wooster trim brushes, and japanese bamboo brushes.

All that said, I'm still more creative, make more money, and have more fun slinging vinyl but that's just me.
