Need to quote a 3' x 16' x 8" single face back lit exterior sign installed 16' up on brick. No wiring with installation, just faces, cabinet and installation. I've got a figure of 3000.00 in mind using a order in sign cabinet, crane work and all labor!
How does this fit with your experience on such work.

that sounds like a good (good for them) price for just the face & cabinet. Sounds way too low with installation... but prices are higher out here.

48 sq ft.....3 grand.... that is a little over 62 bucks a sq ft. I would ask at LEAST that much for just the sign, and then the install plus 20%. I did just a pair of 4x8 FACES for a chines restaurant ez 2 color on white plex, and got 1500 or so....with cherry picker and installation.

$75 sq. ft. for sign and cabinet only. the rest I would price it out on an hourly wages. Boom $90/hr 4 hr min. plus additional labour at shop rate for install!

Now I've got another quote to do! I don't hardly get a chance to bid these, but things change! So, could I get some more sq. ft. prices? I Don't want to under bid, but don't want to miss the job either. I figured for around here the 63.00 per sq. ft. was pretty good. It is a bid job and in comparison to Rick's sq. ft. price seems pretty close, but I still would like to know what you guys get around the country though. Hate to leave money on the table ya know!

Cost of cabinet x 1.5 + Cost of face substrate (acrylic?) x 2 + Cost of install materials x 2 + Cost of vinyl x 2 + Design Time x your design rate + Production Time x your production rate + Cost of install labor (subcontracted?) x 1.5
That will give you a good starting place for where the price should be.
Then check that number against the prices in this post. If yours is lower, raise your prices! (grin) - but I'll bet you'll be surprised how much higher it is than $3,000.
Remember not to do work unless it's profitable - otherwise you are trading cash for time in equal value, and could better spend the time on other, more profitable pursuits.

Chuck, since your price came out where it did (that actually surprises me a bit) please double check that your hourly rate is where it should be. If so, then this is an item that can bear quite a bit of markup and you should raise the price anyway based on the feedback you've goten here.

This particular sign is made to size, shipped and does come with the flat faces. I will letter it and hang it. So, maybe that's why it seems low. I will probably adjust it up some but I have to be careful not to get too greedy.
I'll do fine at my original figure, but I would still like to know of some more hard numbers in this area if I could find out. Maybe I do have more room than I think and still be a competitive bid!
