I bought a roll of R-Tape clear choice and it sure creates alot of static.. do all brands do this ? Or how can I prevent this...When I lay out the vinyl and unrole the tape off the dispensor, and I pull the tape over the graphic it pulls the vinyl up to the transfer tape .. Help! [I Don t Know] [Confused]

The cure for this is to place small pieces of tape to hold the graphic down. It is not a big deal. I swear.

One trick I learned is to use a "used" dryer softner sheet to wipe down any substrate I might be working on that has "static cling".

I've done work on fiberglas where it will pull the paint right off the brush from 2" away!

Don't know if this would apply to that clear tape problem, but maybe it could help [Smile]

I always clamp down my vinyl before I roll out the transfer tape. It prevents the vinyl from coming up or moving.

Our table top is steel, We use the static to our advantage! we peel from this table and that creates enough static for the backer paper to stick to the table without moving for applying the premask. (Have to keep shop really clean for this method cause static attracts dust!) [Wink]

Yo Boone,

We switched to the Ultra and it still generates some static. Grante it isn't as bad as the Brand X stuff we used to use but it is still a static monster.

That's why we use the little pieces of masking tape around the outer edge of the backer paper. Heck, you can reuse those pieces of tape for dang near a week! Sometimes even longer!

Thanks for the chicken and dumplings. You are one heck of a cook!

Static string works well if you're using a Weber tool. Tie it to each end of the shft, making sure that it drapes over the tape as you're pulling it off of the roll. It will take away 99% of the static. stopstatic.com is one manufacturer but you can find it at industrial/manufacturing supply distributors. Some of it looks like small copper garland, others look like smooth gray string.

You can use regular christmas garland the same as Sara mentioned above...just rig it up so as you pull the tape off the roll, the garland drags on the top side of the tape...no more static.

You'll be amazed at how well this works!

Plus right about now you can get it for almost nothing in the christmas clearence area.

And a thumbs up for TranferRite Ultra 1320 series!

Agreed. Once we switched to the TransferRite 1320, most of our static problems went away, When we were using the R Tape, it would literally lift our graphics off the weeding table.
