I recently upgraded our cutter PC from Win98se to WinXP Pro. We use Corel Draw 7 to design and communicate to our SummaSign D610 on (Com1).

Now thet I've upgraded, Corel Draw no longer has the Summa option in the Print Preview (or elsewhere for that matter).

I've search the Harddrive for (.ini) driver(s) but with no luck. I found drivers on the web, but they do not have a (.ini) file with them which windows is looking for.

Any clues?

Thx, Steve & Sue

probably a dumb question, but do you have an original CD that came with the Summa?

Nope =o/

Bought it used a few years ago with no software. Got a software install off the web for it then when we were using Win98se. Now I find one offered by CoCut software (a driver that is) but it does not have the (.ini) file windows XP is looking for to install a printer.

I haven't done this, but I believe you can have BOTH
Windows versions loaded in your computer at the same time. As the Windows program is loading, it gives you a choice of which version to load.

Someone else here will know better, but I believe this is a viable option.

Steve, I've set up our XP Home computer to be able to dual boot into Win98 just for plotting.
You need to jiggle things around a bit.

I tried other alternatives, and this was the best in the long run, for us. Other than keeping a separate W98 computer just for the plotter, that is.

(by jiggle, I mean- XP has its own C drive set up as a NTFS partition, and My Docs is totally on a separate partition - D drive- set up as Fat32.

I used Partition Magic to shift the XP Cdrive 'back' down the hard disk a little and insert a Fat32 C drive at the front on which I loaded Win98se. It then has access to the My Docs drive which is also Fat32. (Win98 can't 'see' a NTFS partition normally).

It would have been better to put W98 on first & do the partitioning before XP was put on, but this is just the way it happened, and it works fine for us.

good luck!

We're now using a laptop runing Win98 with Corel 7. After installing CoCut Demo hoping to regain a suitable driver in the process, I proceeded to install a ROM update from Summa thru Com1(for older plotters without USB) and it installed 99% then reported FAILURE: BUY NEW ROM. (Gasp)

Shut it off, reapplied power and it came up normally asking for default language, etc. We set it, then powered it back down to unhook the Com1 cable and try a parallel port cable. Went to power it back up and.... No Display. (another gasp) We left it powered down for about 5 minutes and it came back up normally. However it was not recognized thru the parallel port. Went back to Com1 port connection and was able to get it to somewhat communicate thru CoCut. Corel 7 still does not see a plotter (no printer installed).

Thats where we are at the moment.

Steve, network it to a desktop box. Drive the plotter from that.
