Apparently the installation of service pack 2 for Windows XP has broken CoCut 11's ability to communicate with my Summa D-60 via USB.
A call in to Summa reveals that I am not the only one having this issue. Summa was helpful on the phone though they have no resolution at this time. I am expecting a call back soon, I hope.
I could use the serial interface in lieu of USB. Though possible, it's not practical given my current computer setup.
I hope there is a decent conclusion to this issue right away. I have work to do.
Heads up ! for anyone running CoCut 11 or lower in conjunction with Win' XP. Don't install SP2 until the issue is resolved.

Do you have XP? Can you go back to a former profile? Windows XP allows you (sometimes) to return to a previous "setup" (as though you had not loaded sp2).
I can't remember the details. Maybe a fellow Letterhead here is also a computer genius and can help (or the online help manual or the MS website). I probably won't have time to look the steps up as we are having a hurricane right now.

Yeah, do what William said - go to the help section of XP and do a system restore to an earlier date (obviously before you install the service pack) and see if that fixes it.
I swear I'm gonna put linux on one of my machines and see if I can use any of my software as I'm sick of Microshaft and all the problems they've caused me - ok rant off... I'm also gonna start pickin up the brush a bit more too!

curtis posted this a problem less then a month ago. m/s suggest you wait till the FIXES for SP2 are AVAILABLE.....you do know what XP stands for dont you????EXPERIMENTAL......that should tell you something... i got XP with SP1. 1st time installed it it wouldnt find my LPT-2 pci card. thats the one my plotter is on. i fdisked/reformated, it now recognizes the LPT-2 but it cuts slower then my old PNC-1000 did. i have removable hard drives, so i didnt mess up my 98SE h/d. i still do all my work off the 98SE. XP i use mostly for games, and internet....its great for that.

It just so happens that I am a computer tech. I know more about it than I care to know sometimes. In addition to being a signmaker I also build and repair computer systems.
I build high end graphics workstations and redundancy systems for book keepers and the like.
On the repair side I do just about anything. From commercial to home users. The sign business is a bit seasonal here, as I suspect it is elsewhere as well. The computers keep me going over the holidays.
I was able to uninistall SP2 and now am able to cut just fine. I would rather have the service pack though. It actually does fix a lot of big issues with the OS.
On the subject of system restore. For me it's useless. I can reinstall the enitre OS as well as all my programs faster and more efficiently than I could ever get rid of the garbage left behind after a system restore.
System restore removes registry entries and reverts back to a previous driver state but it does not uninstall programs or delete files that were made after the restore point. All you get is a dirty system.
The best option for a system restore is to use a program like Norton's Ghost to do a complete backup of a fresh install. Then you can start compeletely over in about half the time it takes to do a normal install. Fast and efficient.

A computer tech and a letterhead. WOW! I bet most sign guys would love to know more about computers. Smart move, IMO, to have TWO businesses to help balance each other.
I haven't upgraded to SP2, yet. Sounds scary.

Beware the auto-update as well! If you have XP set to update automatically, you'll wind up with SP2 without knowing it.
And SP2 seems to pretty much be a nightmare for all things USB (and some things not). We've had customers call to say our USB cutter and printer drivers stopped working, along with other peripherals, such as scanners and printers. Also, some have said that SignLab wouldn't open, and at least one person mentioned Photoshop would not open.
Our tech support manager is digging into this problem to see if updates are needed to ours, and others, drivers. Or if the problem is with Microsoft. Meanwhile, SP2 should be avoided like the plague, IMHO.
Best Regards, Jim
