1. Do 3' X 8' or 3' X 10' banners need wind slits? They are for a rodeo. I'm not sure how they will be mounted. Customer has requested wind slits.
2. Same customer wants 50 18" X 24" coroplast signs. one side, one color only. She wants her logo (picture of 3 horses heads) on the signs. Signs will have 7 lines of text plus picture. What's the best way to get the picture on the coroplast?
3. What would be a reasonable charge for the signs?
Thanks.

Hiya Robert, In my humble opinion, good banners don't need wind slits if they're installed correctly. However, if the client wants them, he'll get them. If you're doing 50 of the same image on all the signs, screen printing is the way to go. I'm drawing a blank on the member who just posted a picture of the political signs in front of his shop. If the text is all different, you can screen print the client's logo and apply the extra text in vinyl. My banner pricing starts at about $6 per square foot and goes up from there depending on size number of colors and wording. Screen printing is normally outsourced and marked-up at 40% gross profit. In-house production is billed at our hourly rate and materials are marked up with with 40% profit too.
Havin' fun,
Checkers

Newbie, Wind slits if the customer requests and will be installing himself, because if something happens, guess whose fault it is. Remember wind slit "SMILES", not frowns. I use a foam plate as the template and make them no longer than about 6" across. Make sure you don't put too many and don't put them close to the edges. 3x8 banner, maybe 3 slits: 2' apart, no closer than 12" from top or bottom. Larger signs, I keep even further from the edges to avoid stress rips. Don't put them all in a row - stagger them, one high, one low, one high... They don't have to be symmetrical either, I try to avoid letters if possible and sometimes I add them to a thick stroke. Just not too many. I really believe they're mainly for looks anyway and I NEVER add them to wall banners (I believe it allows more air than necessary behind a nice taut banner).

Robert, I'm a resident but not an advertiser yet on letterville but intend to be soon. I know it is illegal to advertise here but We do a lot of corroplast signage and sell blanks printed and unprinted as well. But I didn't say it here you'll just have to look us up

The customer was quoted $65.00 for a 3' X 8' banner by someone else. I can probably deal with that.
On the coroplast signs, she wants to use them again and only change the year. She was quoted $8.oo per sign & $1.oo per sign every year to change the year. I'll pass on doing the coroplast signs.

Robert, OUCH. Dave Grundy is right... PASS. I doubt the customer was given a quote that low or he wouldn't be looking elsewhere. Call his bluff. He might have to hem & haw a little and then give you some song and dance about how he'd rather have you do it anyway. $65 barely pays for materials, let alone time and overhead. Unless you're REALLY hungry, pass on this one and look out for customers like this in the future. Minimum $6-$7 per square foot x 24 s/f = $144-$168. That's for simple, plain banner, no shade, no frills. Don't let them start screwin' with you! I know it's hard to let jobs go, but if you aren't making money on the job, you can't make it up in volume.

Unless of course, there's advertising potential for your company as well.
In the past I've done banners for material cost (plus mark-up) in return for having my own banners displayed all over an event site. Then again, the events I advertise at are also events in markets I target so it works out well.

You'll make more money for your efforts being a Wal-Mart greeter. Seriously,....I'd get exactly what Checkers and the others stated; Roughly $165 for an 3' X 8' banner.
You do not want to get in the habit of working your tail off for nothing. That's not being fair to yourself...and it's not fair to others in the business. Good luck
