Just wondering who here keeps a running inventory on their computer for fast reference to what substrates or smaller drop pieces they have in stock? Why is the best way to do so, a spreadsheet, or is there a particular program that works well for this?

dam. all i do is keep a pile of it along one wall. and the scraps hidden behind anything else that will stand still. Running inventory is my brain power.
When i get a job i go make sure i got what i need. If not order it. Here in one day. Thats the way I run my inventory. Do i have it made?

Only to the extent that we buy 10 to 20% over each time we buy something.(like geting something free when you need it further down the road)even tho it's not really free!
Being a custom shop it is difficult to keep much on hand because you never know when you're going to need it or what you're going to need.
I usually keep a few sheets of aluminum Komatex and MDO but for the most part I order when I need it.

we are lucky to have quite a few supply houses locally so for the most part we have never inventoried much other than the things we use often, 1/2" clear acrylic, MDO, thats about it. We can even order 1 yrd of vinyl of any color of course we only do it for odd ball things and the suppliers will deliver it free twice a day no minimum order, unreal but nice.
