Reading Alicia's post inquiring about the Ford Thunderbolt and then reading Magoo's reply, and folks wanting to see pics, got me to thinking. I for one would love to see some of Frank's stuff from back then. With so many gearheads and racers on here and so many guys/gals that did a lot of race car stuff back in the 60's, 70's,80's. It might be interesting to see some vintage shots. What about it? The history aspect always gets my attention.

I would also be interested in seeing any race vehicles, and the art work applied to them. I'm not a big boat racing fan, but some of the drag boats I've seen photos of, are beautiful. Some good ideas can be found on bikes too. I doubt Steve wants to start a seperate section on the subject, so I'm sure the existing portfolio page will suffice. Put some of your work up George. That would be a great start!

Old School gassers are getting big again with all the lettering styles. Anyone get the retro/ratrod magazines like:
Hop Up Mag-neto Garage Barracudda Gearhead Rolls and Pleats Cruizin Newledder Old Skool Rodz
I remember as a kid going to Lyons Dragstip or OCIR mostly. There were a couple of lettering guys where I grew up that did a lot of that work, probably the biggest reason I got into signage.

It's too cheap and easy not to George! I wanna see it! A grass roots "race art" webpage with the great bearded one playing bluegrass for backgound music! Monthly posts of an artist bio. and vintage pics! It's a winner George!

I have a great deal of trouble posting but I'll try to put something up in the next day or so. Most of my stuff is from the eighties, I'd really like to see some 60's vintage .

I'd love to post some of my dirt track stuff, but don't know how (haven't tried, actually). I'll gladly keep an eye on this thread; it would be most interesting to see such a collection in one place...
Can you smell the Turbo Blue?

"Old habits die hard" bests explains what I'm about to say. My Dad and my Grandfather, both used to have a saying about fool's names and faces in public places...then the Navy instilled a loathing of the camera,( our use of camera's was heavily regulated for obvious security reasons). To become comfortable w/the camera has been a life long struggle that I haven't won yet. I seldoem take a picture and am very selective about those taken of me. Hope this doesn't come off as vain, believe me, it isn't about that at all. I have adequate photos from the 80's on, but before that, I was quite comfortable to take a back seat and let others banner the work. One for instance, all parties agreed, was Don Kirby Race Cars, it was easier for all concerned to banner under Don. No one knew for sure in those days who'd get the nod for one particular car, vs another, one day Nat would go, next Kenny, and so on. Plus, I didn't reside there on a steady basis, I was always in and out. When things didn't work out for owners of damaged cars, whoever was available, flew out to Englishtown and repaired "the Max". heh-heh and other tracks nation-wide. Dallas, Houston, Tampa, Searspoint, and on and on. Along with work load of such a trip, and having a thing about camera's, I never took a camera w/me on such outings. Ask Yosemite Sam, he knows what I mean....heh-heh. I had to go to corner store there and buy a cheap-assed box throw-away just to shoot the "Oriential Rickshaw" for Ricthner. I'll go thru what there is and see if anything is of value and then have to learn how to post pictures here and all of this won't happen before I return here in Sept. from my eastern tour. I do have alot of construction shots of our funny car, the "Hellfire" corvette. Anyway, yes I'm listening, but to bluegrass and it's a calln'; got to finish truck for trip and have been long hours at neph's hot-rod shop. I like idea of a page for the early stuff, I should also admit to having some of really bad work that I'd just as soon not let out, just yet, maybe for a how not to do it article. The best record of those days is from the mags of that era, Drag Racing; Hotrod; Car Craft; Popular Hotrodding,( probably one of the all time best because of the presence of Steve Reyes, the greatest drag race photojournalist ever.) It's some of his photos that inspired Kenny Youngblood to do his famous dragster series that Doug Davenport owns now. Anyway, hope this helps and more power to the new idea!!! Geet, can't hear you!!!!! music's to loud....magoo

Bluegrass almost next to Bill's home? Sounds like something a bluegrass groupie should have under their belt, hmmmmm, it's not all that far out of the way either.....hmmmmmmm, just might.
The Assassin was Roger Guzman's ride I do believe. Guzman and Ward AA/TF. from Denver if I remember right. It sported a Cerny paint job back then. Restoring fuelers is big business right now. Saw the Doug Headers restoration recently, nice job, matched our lettering perfectly. Also the corvairs, including "Machine Gun Kelly", which I sprayed and lettered the first time.
