Oh dear! I guess I was a bit casual with this one. Haven’t painted a banner since sign-cotton days so, clearly don’t know the wrinkles of modern materials.
However, the banner supplier’s brochure said they were ready for signwriting and, before ordering, I specifically asked if it would accept writing enamel without problems and was assured it would. So, I gave it a little prep and set-to.

What a mess!! What did I do wrong? The black is Screen-ink and faired better than the orange, (Keep’s Synthetic Writing Enamel) but has failed in a few places.
Too keen to get the brushes out and not enough research, I fear.

Obviously he lied or sent you the wrong material.
he fact that the black screen ink held, tells me it had no barrier coat, thus the enamel wouldn't dry. (Plasticizer migration from the vinyl)

Time to have a heart to herta talk with your supplier....or maybe a set of knuckles into his noze!

When in doubt, give the vinyl a coat of clear acrylic, such as TiCoat.

What a bloody shame Arthur.
It was such a snappy design too!
I think you were cheated, and I think that you should demand a refund/replacement.
Pity that it won't buy back your wasted time!

You say "Rats, I made a mess out of that".

Actually I think it's rather spiffy layout, THEY made a mess out of that.

Well, thank you so much, you've certainly salved my pride a little. Really pleased you liked the layout too.
I felt such an idiot when the customer rolled it back out on the bench. I'm so glad I didn't miss an obvious step. For now, I've just quickly repainted the 'discount prices' and touched in the other bad spots; should get him through this special weekend, at least.
Then a word with supplier, maybe? (Think I'll try that first, Si [Wink] )

Hey Arthur, great casual font on that "Original Art at". It looks like it was fun to lay out and letter! The whole banner looks fun to do.

Oh Arthur, What a shame.
I had to learn this one the hard way too!
( One shot on PVC banner- either won't dry at all or fails in the same way)
I use Apollo screen inks now ,great range of colours, fast drying and lasts well.(not as smelly to work with as some inks)

Just curious again . . . . .

WHY don't they just make ALL banner's enamel receptive??? [Dunno]

C'mon. . . . what would it hurt . . . .
