A good software to look at it is PC Anywhere. Basically as long as your computer is hooked up to the internet you can use your office computer from your home, or vice versa. There are lots of other options as well such as ftp site, or internet storage... depending on you final use.

If you wish to share files I would agree with an FTP setup. I use a Free FTP Server called 'GuildFTP' which works quite well.
PCAnywhere as stated is a good piece of software, however recently its become more and more bloated. I would recommend instead of PCAW nowadays a program called 'VNC'. Its open source and free, there are many different flavors. We use 'TightVNC' here for administration of our many server and client machines around the world.
If you are unaware what PCAW and VNC does, it lets you control the keyboard and mouse as if you were actually sitting at your remote machine. While a bit slow on a DSL connection, you can turn up jpeg compression and other features to speed up the connection.
One step further is 'Dameware Mini Remote Control' which lets you automatically change screen size on connection, switch to greyscale and even drop to a 4-bit display. Speeds up the whole process entirely. I wouldnt expect this to let you actually do graphics work remotely, screen refreshes are a bit too sluggish to hope to get anything graphically intensive done.
With either of these I recommend a STRONG password and at least on VNC change the port to something other than default. (FTP uses 21, VNC uses 5900 and Dameware uses 5600 IIRC)
If you are behind a firewall/router at either location (which you should be!) you will need to work with opening ports to let these services in. There are people with too much time on their hands with the hobby of finding and exploiting insecure systems.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good software for this type of setup?
Both locations are on DSL.
Thanks...

1. Operate your shop computer from home, means you actually use your shop computer from the house; files fonts and programs all stay in the shop, plus you have shop email, and printers. Penalty is small lag in operating, plus reduced screen colors.
2. Use it to ftp files from shop to home
Nice easy program to configure as well.

If you wish to just move files around then a FTP will work perfect.
If you wish to acces computers like you are on a network then A VPN would be a great choice. Virtual Private Network.
Ive been playing around with that a little and find it very interesting. Its a little complicated but it works great.
Windows has a VPN you can setup yourself with a little bit of time .
