Anyone using Corel 12 have a problem with fonts? I have all my fonts in 1 folder and use the Bitstream Font Manager to install fonts into Corel. I keep about 300 installed all the time. Since switching from version 9 to 12, I have several fonts that are listed in the text flyout and listed as being installed in the Font Manager that will not appear on the page when I switch to them. It's weird. They are mostly Type 1 fonts that I loaded into the folder from the Corel 9 disk. Also where are the fonts from Corel 12 (this is an upgrade version)?

So far I've not been impressed with the upgrade.

Bill,

I'm new to CorelDraw 12 myself. In trying to use the various fonts, I found most of them on CD3 that came with the package. If you put it in your drive and then go to Start>AllPrograms>CorelDrawGraphicsSuite12>Bitstream Font Navigator then you can move the fonts that you want over to the installed fonts section. Flop them back and forth as you need them. Hope this helps.

Dennis

Bill...I haven't purchased Corel 12 yet. (Things were slow for a couple of months, didn't want to spend the bux!! [Roll Eyes] [Roll Eyes] )

I'm still using ver 11 and I like it.

Other than the font problems, is there anything else that you aren't impressed with? I "know [Wink] [Wink] " I'll end up buying it soon but I am curious about any major concerns or issues.

I had a similar problem that drove me nuts (a very short journey) with Corel 9-11 and my evaluation version of 12. It happened with every rebuild of W2000 and even on a friend's computer.

When I had both a Type 1 and a True Type font with the same name installed, I had disappearing and reappearing text. Sometimes I could edit, sometimes not. Sometimes it would print, sometimes not. I uninstalled the matching True Type fonts and the problem went away.

Corel just released Service Pack 2 for Version 11. Their website says it fixes "TrueType vs T1 font issues that resulted in corrupted text". I installed the service pack, loaded up some True Type fonts that matched my Type 1 fonts in name and no longer had the problem.

Try either ininstalling fonts that are exact duplicates in name or installing the service pack and see if that doesn't solve this problem.

I've got 12, got the upgrade for $149 bux thru unleashed.

I really like it. It's fast. No longer bloated and really stable. So far I haven't noticed any querks. I like it enough that I will likely upgrade to cocut pro 12 in the next few weeks.

Some good stuff

Smart Drawing tool. Completes corners and such.
Chiseling tool works great too.

Thanks for the input here. So far I'm not entirely impressed with 12. It seems like some of the features I liked in 9 are more difficult to do. This could be a memory thing which will go away when we upgrade to more powerful computers. My one example is with the sliding node reducer when you select the node edit tool. It seems to over-react when reducing nodes and distorts the original line. The other example is duplication. You used to be able to assign how far and which direction to duplicate an object and I can't find that menu or any help in the book that came with it.

There are more bells and whistles, it seems for doing web design and so forth, but for designing and cutting graphics, I don't like it as well as 9. Once I spend more time with it, I might change my mind.

Bill....As I said, I don't have ver 12 YET but in version 11 the duplicate and move function is covered under "arrange>transformations. When you click on it a docker will appear that you can dock to one side.

As far as the sliding node reduction feature, what I do is duplicate the original directly over top of the original then when I reduce the nodes on the top object I can use the lower one as a guide to see how much distortion is taking place. Keep in mind that you can slide back and forth as long as the left mouse button is held down, but once you release it the node reduction is permanent and you'll have to use the "undo" feature to restore the nodes.

I've got 12 , can't use it.. it cannot save across a network from a win 2k machine to a file server that is still running win 98. Reported it to Corel, they were able to duplicate problem, but no fix... maybe when service pack 1 comes out... It's too bad as it's the only problem I had with 12 and I liked some of the new features.
I'm not looking to replace the file server before spring 2005.

I had problems with fonts, importing .eps files, and certain pdf's with version 11.
It seemed to have problems if both the ttf and type 1 version of the same font were loaded. Service pack 2 is now released, (released same day I received 12 [Wink] ) and it's supposed to fix the font issue, but the file import issues are too important.

I ended up 'upgrading' the shop from ver 9 to ver 10 last month, after I got frustrated playing around with 11 & 12 for over a year. 10 is stable and so far trouble free, but the only reason I upgraded at all was to run 'curveworks' which is a plugin that allows you to round corners on all objects, and define the radius, before cutting. Unfortunately curveworks only works with corel versions 10 and up.

Mike, where did you get Curveworks? Is that the generic plot program you use for your Graphtec?

curveworks

They have free 30 day trial download, the $50 registration key works with all 3 versions so if you upgrade corel you don't have to pay for plugin again.

Rodney Gold mentioned this plugin on chat one night, one of the better $50 purchases I've made.

I don't use any plot program with the graphtec, just plot directly from Coreldraw. I just use the plugin within coreldraw to round corners on objects which is one feature I grew to like with dedicated sign software that corel didnt do.

I think I'd like to bring plotting from corel to a meet someday, there's a lot of tips tricks and features we all could share.
