A friend of mine in Soo, MI is a Tattoo Artist. I've made all his signs for several years anyway he wants to be able to manipulate type and scan images that can also be manipulated. I use a very old version of Flexisign v4.5 and Photoshop thesse are both way more than he needs. He uses Windows, so any suggestions. Thanks John

I guess we need more details....there are probably other programs that he could use but Corel is great for that type of thing. What's his budget though? They don't exactly give Corel away. Anybody have some other suggestions? I think alot of shops use Illustrator but I don't really know xactly what it does. I know our boys, who are very computer saavy, and have used both and prefer Corel BIG TIME!

John, Print Artist is a cheap program that can manipulate text in many ways. I guess what Pat means is, bad layouts can be produced so easily with a program like that. Overstretching or squeezing fonts, all caps Old English, script on an arc, etc. With a little design crash course from you, this program might be good enough for him. You can imoport images, but beyond changing size, squeezing and stretching there's not much you can do with a picture in Print Artist. It does have a bunch of clipart that comes with it. To borrow someone else's tag line... Hope this helps.

Most all good tattoo artists make $125 an hour and up and are proficient with a pencil as well as the machine. Most all art programs can help them and I could understand why they want to manipulate their drawings etc. Carl 'Shotshie' Gorman who done my work, runs a million dollar a year tattoo studio in Edison NJ and does all aspects of tattooing including cosmetic tattoos. The days of drunken sailors have gone the way of drunken signmakers, wake up and try to appreciate another man or womans way of life's artwork

Thank you all for the responces. My friend will be well advised here. I did suggest he look at corel draw. The budget is an issue only in the sense that he doesn't need to send info to a plotter or a wide format printer or a router table. He will be using a standard inkjet or laser printer to make patterns (flashes I think they are called in the tat biz). Insidently Bhanz is an outstanding tattoo artist rivaling anyone I've seen and I lived and worked in Hollywood for several years. At the age of 46 I got my first tattoo from Bharnz because I was impressed enough with his talents. By the way it is a Deer Crossing sign, I use for my company logo. It's on my....... It is called "flash" in the tatoo trade. Images that can be displayed before the tatoo is done and/or used as a guide. I've got a friend here who does tatoos that uses Corel 7 to scan his drawings and add type with. His walls are covered with his prints. Great way to display tatoo work.

If it's causing headaches from being all jammed in there Joey, zipper-file a bunch of not-used much information and relieve that tension son. Hell, ya might even tattoo it on your arm somewheres and when someone asks a question, just give em the arm.....heh-heh
