Hi, I'm looking for infos from somebody who has been using InteCel (produced by World-Pak ?)for possibly more than three years on outdoor signage. I have been considering alternatives to MDO, and although I like Dibond a lot, sometimes I'd like/need a thicker panel. If it's all that they say it is, it sounds good. But is it? I can't afford to find out by chance. Thanks for any kind of information.
Been using Intecel for about four years. Good stuff...I use full panels for 8x12 and 8x16 hiway signs, cut out letters, sidewalk signs etc,etc,...just don't paint it out in dark colours for a background or it will warp! If you are butting panels, run it thru the table saw to take off the rounded edges. Hope this helps.

Thanks, Murray, I just run a search about it (should have thought of doing that first ) and heard nothing good about it. What do you think is the reason that it seems to work for some and not for others? Can you use it without painting? I wonder about the edges in that case. Do you get colors from your supplier? The one here offers only white. Lots of questions...

Hey Lottie.. If you are hearing bad things about it, they probably weren't using it the right way! 1/ A little extra cross bracing on a bill board..I use five 2x4's for the horizontals 2/ drill mounting hole slightly larger than the screws and use a cup washer 3/ use slow speeds when sawing, otherwise it melts. Even slow you will get a bead of melt, but it just knocks off easily 4/ only comes in white, I think, but I've had good luck scuffing and painting. My preffered paint is Benjamin Moore Impervo enamel
anything else you need, lemme know

and if you don't want to take a chance on it, try Lusterboard ... aluminum faced hardwood plywood... great stuff! I haven't used MDO since I got a half a lift of crap and had to redo seven big signs! MUR

I think the others covered it off pretty well. I have some signs out that have 3 years wear on them - still look like new. I think it's rated for 25 years. It won't mould or mildew.

Lotti, I had a really bad experience with it, but in all fairness, it wasn't all the intecell's fault. I tend to think in wood terms, & I mounted a funky-shaped 4' x 8' 2 sided between 2 posts. Well, it exploded one windy 30 below night. Now the supplier had told me this was fine, so they actually gave me my money back for the stuff, but I had a big salmon jumping out of both sides, & multiple shades of blue, so needless to say I didn't do terribly well on that deal. Canadian. Signcrafters sell a product called Nu-alum - has a mahogany core - I love it for flat work. Rodger

I'm following your post because I've been curious about this product as well. My supplier told me it is great stuff, but I'm just a little afraid to sell it if it isn't going to hold up. I did order a sheet and made an a-frame sign that turned out nice. I've got half the sheet left that I could experiment with, but I'm thinking 4X8's too.
I've also been seeing alot more sintra used in signs I've seen in signcraft. I think it comes in different thicknesses. I'm not sure if if comes in full .5" sheets, but it does come in different colors.

SueLynn... Watch out for coloured Sintra, it fades real fast. It also does not stand up to weather extremes very well...becomes brittle and spongy. OK for indoor stuff, tho. Rodger, I've got a 4x8 mounted between two 4x4 posts sittin' up on a very windy hill...so far so good, but I know it flexes in the wind, and every time I drive by I look at it rather apprehensively. We did mount it for movement, so maybe that's the secret.
OT how ya doin' Rodger? I leave for Mike's bash tomorrow... can't wait, I learned so much out at Unity last summer. I'll say hi to anyone who admits they know ya.

Thanks for all the good information, I feel more confident now to give it a try. Hey Suelynn, how about you try first and let me know how it went for you? Has nobody ever seen colored Intecel? I've got a red sample here, but can't remember how I got it.
